I am simply passing on key messages from a new paper from Zakaria Belrhiti and colleagues. Healthcare networks are becoming a very fashionable 'fix' for the wicked problems of delivering better care. But don't underestimate the breadth of the work involved and the care that must be paid to creating networks. For a rapid summary I am sharing their key messages but I recommend you read the full report if you can: So healthcare networks require: a) robust leadership, effective coordination, appropriate resource mobilization and healthcare staff pooling; b) a balance between top-down policies, including a general legal policy framework institutionalizing a comprehensive healthcare reform, and bottom-up initiatives combining adaptive leadership, community participation and transformative learning processes; c) inter-operable health information systems and relational coordination among professionals; d) processes for organizational learning and relational collaboration to establish enduring, dynamic inter-organizational partnerships. I can vouch for the veracity of these requirements so if anyone starting one then better get to work. https://lnkd.in/en4p6Cs2

In healthcare, the sense of perpetual motion without meaningful progress isn't just exhausting—it's unsustainable. And what if I told you that the solution isn't doing more things, but doing things differently? > Understanding the Frustration-Cycle: At the core of the frustration overwhelm many healthcare leaders face is a commitment to "doing more" in an attempt to meet the infinite demands of a highly-matrixed clinical and administrative environment. This drive, often fueled by a profound sense of duty and the thrill of achievement, leads to a cycle where being busy is mistaken for being effective. However, the reality is stark: multitasking and extending work hours offer only temporary relief. > The Misconception of Busyness: The belief that conquering an ever-growing to-do list will alleviate the feeling of spinning wheels is a common misconception. In truth, the quest for productivity and efficiency, for creating that "extra hour" in the day, only results in spending more of your life working, not necessarily achieving. > The Better Approach: After coaching hundreds of physicians, the pattern is clear: the most significant changes occur not through adding more tasks but by simplifying the approach to problem-solving. The key is pairing a single insight with a single meaningful action, often in 10 minutes or less. > How to Break the Cycle: 1. Clarify a Single Insight: Take a moment to pause, reflect, and identify what truly matters in the situation at hand. This step allows you to zoom out, gain perspective, and focus your efforts where they can make a real difference. 2. Commit to a Single, Meaningful Action: Moving from insight to action is where the magic happens. This step is about making tangible progress, transforming thought into outcome. > The Result: By adopting this two-step process, clinical leaders can move from a state of overwhelm to one of consistent, meaningful achievements. It's a shift from perpetuating the status quo to creating positive change, one insightful action at a time.

Mentorship plays a crucial role in the healthcare sector, where experienced providers pass on their knowledge and skills to those with less experience. Through mentorship, aspiring healthcare professionals gain valuable insights, guidance, and support, accelerating their learning curve and enhancing their abilities to provide quality care. This transfer of expertise fosters confidence, promotes professional development, and leads to improved patient outcomes. Mentorship not only ensures continuity of excellence in healthcare but also cultivates a culture of collaboration and continuous learning within the healthcare community. #ImprovingHealth

Effective healthcare management is crucial for sustainable healthcare delivery worldwide. Despite this, healthcare management often lacks the structured professionalization seen in other fields. In regions like the Eastern Mediterranean, management roles are frequently held by clinicians without formal management training, highlighting a critical gap. Healthcare management goes beyond administrative tasks—it involves strategic planning, team leadership, and ensuring top-notch patient care. Research indicates that better management practices lead to improved organizational outcomes, including enhanced patient satisfaction and resource utilization efficiency. The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of professional management in overcoming challenges faced by the global healthcare workforce. Professionalization necessitates clear standards, robust education programs, and a culture of continuous learning to ensure healthcare systems are led with expertise and commitment. https://lnkd.in/dugdZnMn #HealthcareManagement #Professionalization #GlobalHealth #HealthcareEfficiency #LeadershipDevelopment

5moMike English Thanks for sharing the article. Considering networks as a 'wicked problem' is a critical perspective to unpack the complexities of networks and propose effective solutions. In addition to the points mentioned, it's also important to monitor the performance of networks using functionality and maturity matrices. This can provide valuable insights into how the network is operating, identify areas for improvement and how it is evolving.
