I am simply passing on key messages from a new paper from Zakaria Belrhiti and colleagues. Healthcare networks are becoming a very fashionable 'fix' for the wicked problems of delivering better care. But don't underestimate the breadth of the work involved and the care that must be paid to creating networks. For a rapid summary I am sharing their key messages but I recommend you read the full report if you can: So healthcare networks require: a) robust leadership, effective coordination, appropriate resource mobilization and healthcare staff pooling; b) a balance between top-down policies, including a general legal policy framework institutionalizing a comprehensive healthcare reform, and bottom-up initiatives combining adaptive leadership, community participation and transformative learning processes; c) inter-operable health information systems and relational coordination among professionals; d) processes for organizational learning and relational collaboration to establish enduring, dynamic inter-organizational partnerships. I can vouch for the veracity of these requirements so if anyone starting one then better get to work. https://lnkd.in/en4p6Cs2

Mike English Thanks for sharing the article. Considering networks as a 'wicked problem' is a critical perspective to unpack the complexities of networks and propose effective solutions. In addition to the points mentioned, it's also important to monitor the performance of networks using functionality and maturity matrices. This can provide valuable insights into how the network is operating, identify areas for improvement and how it is evolving.
