Happy World Water Day! 💧 🏞️ Today is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of conserving water resources and think about how we can strive for more sustainable water management practices and equitable access to clean water. In California, the state’s water-related challenges are always top-of-mind—from water conservation, to supplementing groundwater recharge, to protecting water sources from natural disasters. In Morgan Hill, California, we’re assisting Valley Water to help rehabilitate Anderson Dam, the largest surface reservoir in Santa Clara County. Due to seismic risk, this vital reservoir, which supplies 90,000 acre-feet of rainfall runoff and imported water, can only accommodate three percent of drinking water supplies. ESA, working with COWI construction team, is overseeing the project as environmental lead; steering environmental compliance, water quality monitoring, and permitting, to return the reservoir to its original storage capacity. It’s one part of how we’re helping to improve the reliability of our water resources. Check out our article on Mauricio Guardado of the United Water Conservation District: building drought resilience in Ventura County, California from our March issue. The United Water Conservation District manages, protects, conserves, and advances the water supply in a 375-square- mile service area in Southern California. Through careful monitoring and management, it sustains the Santa Clara River’s water resources, its tributaries, and its associated aquifers in an environmentally balanced manner. To build resilience in the face of California’s worsening drought-flood cycles, the district is aggressively pursuing both new sources of water supply and new ways to use its vast storage capacity. In this interview, United’s general manager, Mauricio Guardado, tells Municipal Water Leader about the district’s impressive projects, which span aquifer recharge, brackish water desalination, dam improvements, and more, and the successful partnerships and funding applications that have made it all possible. https://bit.ly/3VqjQYy #WaterConservation #DroughtResilience #VenturaCounty #UnitedWaterConservation #CaliforniaWater #WaterManagement #MauricioGuardado #WaterSecurity

Chemically, the water that nature creates is always H2O, regardless of whether it’s suspended in clouds, falling as droplets of rain, or coursing across the land in streams. It’s all one water that cycles through earth and atmosphere. People, however, tend to form water teams that focus on singular aspects of water’s role in our environment and communities. What role do you play in protecting our water? Did you know Denver and Fort Collins are among cities making a national effort linking water, land, environment? Read more about it below! https://lnkd.in/gQYcycN3
