We booked a load from Council Bluffs to Carroll, IA. The broker sent us a list of 3 pages worth of PO numbers. We got to the shipper at 0642 this morning, 18 minutes before our appt. Driver checks in at 0700. They ask for their load number. We tell them we have just over 150 numbers to look through, how many digits or what does it start with. They tell us a 5. Out of all of the numbers listed, there is no number that starts with a 5 anywhere on the sheet. We call the broker. After a few calls between the broker and the shipper, they finally figure out that the number they are looking for actually starts with a 6. Driver is finally checked in at 0730. Now the shipper says that the driver is a work in. At noon, I try to call down there and I keep getting put on hold. The shipper is about 5 minutes from my warehouse, so I just drive over there. I ask the nice lady behind the desk for an ETA and she tells me 6pm at the absolute earliest. That would be 11 hours waiting to load and still have to deliver. Had I left my driver there, the rate would not even cover the wages I would have had to pay. I called the broker and told them I was pulling the driver, giving them plenty of time to find someone to cover the load, save any detention/ layover pay, and saving us a ton of money. Load #3 we have had to fall off in 6.5 years. Not bad for over 35,000 loads, but maybe we are below the standards, I do not know.

Off the top of my head, here are all the things that need to be "digitized" for this to be avoided: ➡️ Automated pricing, matching, and booking ➡️ Automated appointment scheduling ➡️ Digital POs ➡️ Verified pickup numbers ➡️ Automated exception management Each of these need to have a shipper, carrier, and broker component. Everyone needs to adopt a handful of tools and hopefully be using the same suite of tools. And ever shipment has a different permutation of partners working together on it. In addition to the devices that need to be actually used by everyone throughout this shipment. How can tech actually solve this?

So what you are saying is you would of sent the ratecon to the carrier. Entered a contract or told him ok the load is yours.? I'm assuming after a tate con was issued. because no rate con no Tonu. Then if your customer didn't ok the rate you would of told the carrier the load canceled and issued a tonu. Even if the carrier was in route. Started their clock?? Or even if they hadn't you had already booked the truck. Costing the carrier time. And work. And maybe a day if he didn't get loaded because he was already on this load. ??? In 2024, the paper bill of lading with inaccurate information and handwritten corrections is still the reality for the high percentage of the truckload operations in the USA. There are still customers that even require ORIGINAL paperwork for the payment. Especially during current #freight market #recession, we are constantly looking to eliminate (small) inefficiencies while arguably the biggest one is daily slipping trough our hands. As an example, even our regular load (that we did hundreds of times) became a nightmare with the wrong delivery info, loaded with expired food product and label inside sealed trailer that didn't match BOL. Our driver or shipper mixed up the paperwork on the pickup and it is not clear who did it since we picked up multiple similar loads that day. You can argue that if they were more diligent, this wouldn't happen no matter what technology they used but when errors happen, it shouldn't take us 2 days, 34 emails, 10+ phone calls, 5+ pictures of BOL, freight and labels to figure out what happened... #transportation #logistics

Good morning my LI friends. We had a load get double brokered. Gateway Carrier Broker Agreement and a RLC was with carrier A Our employee who managed this load sent our shipper instructions to the warehouse in Buffalo. It states “verify the carrier name and MC number on the BOL matches the carrier name and MC number on the cab of the truck (Power Unit) prior to loading” Apparently they did not follow these instructions and loaded Carrier C. Why carrier C? Because B represents another broker in between the carrier we hired and the carrier that was loaded. The way to get back at these people is not to pay any of them. Because Gateway had direct contact with the driver and have worked out getting them paid directly through their factoring company A and B will not be paid any money. Legally Carrier A broke (did not fulfill) the Broker Carrier Agreement contract we had. How Broker B is asking to be paid is beyond me since we are the broker and had no agreement or contract with them to Co Broker this load. Bottom line is DONT pay anyone in the chain that did not provide the servics contracted but make sure the people who did perform the service does. I agree the Gateway Brokerage employee did everything to Vet Carrier A prior to pickup and Everything checked out. We are really disappointed in the shipping warehouse for not following the shipping procedures we sent them. None of the technology available can stop double brokering only people can!!! Check the damn truck at your dock, make sure it matches your paperwork!!! I have that employee learning something new next week. How to file complaints and report the carrier and broker on this load. Everyone can talk and give advice about how to prevent double brokering but not many people talk about the steps you take if it happens to you. Everyone have a great day. #PapaFreight

I swear I can't escape the seat of booking freight! Had a dream that a customer had a load and asked if I could handle. It was a partial. NC to the west coast. I posted it. Spent 15-20 minutes talking to carriers. One of them put me on hold while they asked the driver. Decided they needed $2k more than what I had in mind. Another carrier said they could do it, for less than what I had in mind, but I needed to get back to them since I hadn't quoted the load yet and wanted to make sure it was good, yada yada. In the past I would just lock the carrier down, at risk of a TONU. The customer took another 15 minutes to get back to me and said they found another option. Lot's of problems there ^ but good thing it was a dream and I don't book freight anymore. The issue most companies have is quoting to cover, not quoting to win. Taking time to get back to a customer means an opportunity for someone else. Get the freight on the board and worry about margin later. #3pl #freightbroker #supplychain
