Based on a permanent TLS station (measuring forest every hour, data resemble drone laser scanning (in geometry) since TLS is placed 30 m above ground level): - Hyper-temporal LiDAR time series captures phenological characteristics of tree species. - Tree-wise phenological dynamics are species-specific and support species classification. - Late autumn and optionally late spring LiDAR data support best species classification (single wavelength system). https://lnkd.in/dDGw9F_C

Can LiDAR see through the trees? In the quest to understand and preserve our planet's forests, Lidar technology emerges as a crucial tool. It's a common question: Can Lidar really see through the dense foliage of trees? The answer is a resounding yes. 🍃🔍 Lidar's remarkable capability to visualize tree structure and height has revolutionized forest management and research. Unlike traditional survey methods, which can be time-consuming and less precise, Lidar offers a bird's-eye view of forest landscapes with astonishing detail. 🦅🌄 Here's the fascinating part: Lidar beams penetrate the forest canopy, bouncing back data that creates a multi-dimensional image. This allows scientists to measure tree heights, canopy density, and even the underlying ground terrain. It's like having X-ray vision for the forest, revealing insights that were once hidden beneath the green veil. 🌿👓 The implications are vast. From monitoring forest health to aiding in conservation efforts and understanding biodiversity, Lidar provides an invaluable perspective. It's not just about seeing trees; it's about comprehending the intricate tapestry of forest ecosystems. 🌍🔬 In conclusion, Lidar stands as a testament to the synergy between technology and environmental stewardship. It offers a new lens to view our natural world, enhancing our efforts to protect these vital resources. Stay tuned as we continue to explore the wonders Lidar brings to light. #ForestConservation #LidarRevelations #3DSTech

Geospatial World extends heartiest congratulations to NUVIEW for making it to TIME Best Inventions of 2023 list. Satellite imagery helps scientists keep track of how our planet’s natural environment is changing, but it can’t cut through a thicket of tree cover or pick up changes in the dark. Nuview will address those shortcomings with 20 LiDAR satellites that beam a laser pulse down to earth and measure the time it takes to return. From there, the system creates a 3D image of the terrain, eventually mapping the entire surface of the planet. “With every pulse of light, we’re casting a new perspective on Earth,” says Nuview CEO Clint Graumann. The satellites don’t go live until 2025, but Nuview already has $1.2 billion in business agreements, including one with the United States Department of Defense.
