Imagine a world where connectivity enables saving lives, providing better life & better experiences. It is a world where connectivity create a seamless reality where the digital and physical worlds as we know them today have merged. This emerging reality of the future will provide new ways of meeting and interacting with other people, new possibilities to work from anywhere and new ways to experience faraway places and cultures. So we are not there yet, it will take few more years, but in order to make progress towards this, we need an ecosystem of ISVs that will enrich our day to day living with set of applications that are connectivity-aware. This is where adhering to 5G Advanced comes into play. What is 5G advanced ? 5G-Advanced is the next evolutionary step in 5G technology . It is the new set of network capabilities that will help communications service providers (CSPs) achieve their goal of high-performing programmable networks, with more openness. Ericsson 5G Advanced can help translate business objectives into Radio Access Network (RAN) performance and sustainability. One important KPI of a 5G network is ensuring consistent and superior user experience at any time and place, and influencing network behavior to achieve a desired outcome. From a technology perspective, the key RAN capabilities 5G Advanced will bring are intent-driven networks, AI-powered RAN and service-aware RAN. Intent-driven networks will let CSPs interpret customer objectives - known as intents – and perform RAN actions to meet those objectives. AI-Powered RAN will enable RAN to understand the intents, process vast amounts of data and make intelligent decisions in real time. So how 5G advanced will introduce innovation, by setting the grounds for disaggregation in the network architecture, supporting open interfaces and disaggregated hardware and software. This is referred to as cloudification of RAN (similar to what have happened years ago on the Enterprise IT domain) but apart of this cloudification, an improved intelligence and automation in RAN, with open interfaces towards management and orchestration, and towards third- party rApps is put in place. Intents and Observability are driven by automation which is bi-dimensional. There is the dimension of the RAN where automation needs to occur in microseconds or milliseconds while it can be governed centrally through #rApss in non-real time manner. Hewlett Packard Enterprise plays crucial role in this advanced 5G space by enabling NEBS and CSPs with both open and standard infrastructure but also with open, API-based management software as well as key platform for machine learning development, training and inference. The unique Ericsson 5G Advanced solution to offer real time, AI-powered RAN driven by intents will enable high-performing programmable networks – a real breakthrough.
