Food for thought..! Going to school wasn’t even an option for many kids. They had to earn to eat and survive. “If I go to school, will you give me food to eat? I can learn only if I eat.” When Kamarajar heard these words from a small child herding sheep, he was touched. He was able to deeply resonate with it as he too had a difficult childhood, had to drop out from school. So he took it up instantly, determined to resolve it, as he was then the Chief Minister of TamilNadu. He relaunched the scheme where schools will provide midday meals to kids. There was huge financial constraint to make this possible, but this did not deter him. He pulled in funds from all sources (public donation, committees, taxes..) to ensure this scheme was extended to as many schools as possible. And it was a huge success. Many kids started coming to school just for the food.. but chose to stay for the education too. Attendance & literacy rate soared. This scheme was eventually enriched & adopted by other leaders, including the Central government. And today midday meal scheme is prevalent all over India, and has in fact become the largest school feeding program in the world. Let’s celebrate this scheme on the birthday of Kamarajar. ‘Midday meals’ are indeed a SPECTRUM of SPLENDOUR. -- Enjoyed this post? Follow SPECTRUM of SPLENDOURS. This space will always sparkle with a festive spirit, celebrating the colours of Bharat. Let’s enjoy them together. What’s the most Splendourful moment you’ve experienced in India? Independent Director, Board Member - Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust - Serving morning nutrition to 10 Million School Children in 100,000+ govt schools across 25 states and 4 UTs in India.
On #WorldFoodDay, the journey of Annapoorna Trust stands as a testament to how one vision can impact millions of children across India. It began in a small village near Bangalore, where volunteers realized that hunger was not just about food—it was holding children back from learning and thriving in school. Led by Sri Madhusudan Sai ji, the Morning Nutrition Program was created to give children a nutritious start to their day, providing much-needed energy and focus for their studies. What started as serving breakfast to a few children soon expanded. As teachers and communities saw improved attendance, health, and concentration in children, Annapoorna Trust’s reach grew across Karnataka and eventually spread to other states. Key to this success were the partnerships formed with corporate CSR programs, local governments, and communities, all united by the vision of ending child hunger. With the support of local farmers, the trust introduced SaiSure, a fortified ragi-based health drink, which addressed key nutritional gaps and became a central part of the initiative. By 2024, Annapoorna Trust was serving over #10million children in 25 states and 4 union territories. The program’s impact was felt far beyond the classroom—families, schools, and entire communities saw positive change as children grew healthier and more engaged in their education. As we celebrate World Food Day, the story of Annapoorna Trust reminds us that eradicating hunger is within reach when communities, governments, and corporations come together. Their journey continues, with the vision of one day serving 100 million children, proving that every meal shared can build a brighter future.

India ranked 111th out of 125 countries in the 2023 Global Hunger Index! 📈 Do you know what it means for the children of the lowest-income communities? Well, it simply translates to 'serious' issues of hunger and malnutrition. Students like ours, who come from the most under-resourced communities, are often at the receiving end of it, thus impacting their learning & growth. We at iTeach Schools took a small step to tackle this. Recently, we partnered with Feeding India, a Zomato giveback, to provide breakfast and mid-day meals to our students. Feeding India is an organization that works to eradicate hunger and malnutrition in India among underserved communities, and now we are on a mission together to nourish the bodies and minds of around 2000 students across 6 iTeach Schools. Once this program started, we saw some immediate impact. The sight of our students lining up for second and third servings was a reminder of the hunger they faced before - many without a meal to bring from home. Some of the students would feel sleepy and tired as a result of not eating enough in the second half of school, and they just weren't able to focus. This isn't just a meal program; it's a stepping stone towards a future they deserve to choose. With every bite, they're not just satiating hunger - they're feeding their potential. PS. Read the heartfelt poem from one of our students! ♥️ ____________________________________ #iteach #iTeachSchools #iTeachPune #middaymeals #feedingindia #feedingindiapune #transformationaleducation

#Sustainability vs #India White revolution in India started from Gujarat on January 13, 1970 and Amul as the biggest milk cooperative is operating since then. However, with the tag of highest milk producer, Bharat has highest number of cows too. The reality of the old cows is not hidden anymore. After cows lose the ability of giving milk, slaughtering and exporting of beef become the ultimatum of the cows in the land of India where the people feel that cows deserve same respect and love as mothers because they feed us milk through whole life. I used ask my mom if all the animals feel same pain while chopping off the head, why do we give the pain? Well, the answer was silence back then. But today I am worried if my son/daughter asks me the same question what will I answer them? How will I explain my child that the cow is slaughtered after I extracted all the milk I could and offered the milk of that cow to the God ? What value will I teach to my child if I myself cannot stop slaughtering one old mother from whom I extracted all the milk ? We have to stop thinking as an isolated family that I have nothing to do with cows and just need the supply of milk pouches. We have to think how to manage the old population of cows. I don’t know how can I expect the love towards a cow from a society who doesn’t even take care of his human parents in their old age. But I feel if we start giving a little premium with the price of milk pouches for an old age pension of the cows, at least we can be the good parents with an expectation of inculcating the good values, ethics and morals within the hearts of our children. I don’t know how rational this seems to you but I’m really looking forward to get any idea as a solution of this issue. May be together we can make a change.

🇮🇳 As we celebrate Independence Day, let’s reflect on the true essence of freedom. We speak of 'Viksit Bharat' and take pride in our rich culture and history. Yet, it’s essential to acknowledge the basic tenets of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs—shelter, food, and safety. Without these foundational elements, how can we truly thrive as a nation? Before we invite the world to experience the beauty of India, let’s ensure that every citizen feels safe and secure. Let’s cross the basics first—provide shelter, ensure food security, and most importantly, guarantee safety. Only then can we elevate our discourse to the higher ideals of growth, innovation, and cultural exchange. This Independence Day, let's pledge to strengthen our foundation and build a Bharat that is not just beautiful, but also safe and secure for every individual. Jai Hind! 🇮🇳 #IndependenceDay #MaslowsHierarchy #SafetyFirst #IndiaAt77 #ViksitBharat #BasicNeeds #NationBuilding #JaiHind #SocialResponsibility #SecureIndia
