By 2025, up to 78 million batteries powering IoT devices will be discarded every day, and only about 5% of them are recycled – creating an enormous amount of waste, and diverting resources that are critical for the #energytransition. But what if these devices didn’t need batteries? Perovskia Solar makes custom-designed perovskite solar cells that can be integrated into small electronics, making them fully #energy self-sufficient. Our customer Cemminerals NV in Ghent, Belgium is using Reporter® for accurate canal water temperature monitoring. This is necessary as there are regulations regarding the discharge of cooling water into surface water such as rivers. There is neither electricity supply, wifi, nor the possibility for a data cable at the location where Cemminerals measures. Therefore, an autonomous system was chosen that runs on solar energy and sends live data via the mobile data network.
