In Milestone’s 2023 Sustainability Report we seek to highlight our robust and mature sustainability initiatives. In this publication we feature our collaboration with four third-party consultants to improve our analysis and validate our programs. We were honored to collaborate with: - CohnReznick LLP and the New York University Stern School of Business Center of Sustainable Business to further our analysis on value creation through our sustainability initiatives. - BeZero Carbon to conduct deeper analysis on our carbon sequestration process and carbon accounting methodology. - Geosyntec Consultants executed the carbon sequestration data procedures that they developed in 2022 for waste received and managed in 2023. - ESGLynk was engaged to assist in the alignment of our ESG metrics with SASB standards. It was an honor to work with all of them, and we are grateful for their contribution to Milestone. We have researched the most searched sustainability topics in 2024 and hears what we have found and think you should know. 1. Climate-Positive Technology: Embracing technology that has a positive impact on the environment will be crucial. Innovations like renewable energy, carbon capture, and circular economy solutions will drive sustainability efforts. 2. Boom in Sustainability Jobs: As companies prioritize sustainability, demand for professionals with expertise in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) will surge. Roles such as sustainability managers, ESG analysts, and climate strategists will be in high demand. 3. Preparation for CSRD: The EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and other global standards will require companies to disclose their environmental, social, and governance performance. Organizations must prepare for increased transparency. 4. Mandatory Disclosures on the Rise: Beyond reporting, businesses will face scrutiny on their actual impact. Quality over quantity will matter—net-zero commitments must be backed by credible strategies. 5. Greenwashing Under Scrutiny: Companies claiming sustainability without substantial action will face greater scrutiny. Authenticity and meaningful change will be essential. 6. Deeper Integration into Companies' Financial Statements: Sustainability metrics will become integral to financial reporting. Expansion beyond Public Listed Companies: Smaller businesses and private companies will increasingly adopt sustainable practices as awareness grows. 9. Biodiversity net-gain: As businesses want to go further and make a positive impact on our environment, more are looking at ways to increase both local and global biodiversity.
