You read the article right: faster than any human in history. Damn.
Yes, women belong in special operations. In 2015, the first 2 women graduated from Army Ranger School. It was the first of numerous milestones. Today, more than 100 women are authorized to wear the Ranger tab. Prior to 2015, a few women had been given the chance to attend special operations selection programs, but there was no chance they could proceed to become operators and performance correlated with opportunity. In 2015, the DoD lifted the remaining female exclusions on ground combat roles which formally cleared the way for progress. Flash forward to today, we have had female platoon leaders in Ranger Regiment and in 2020 the first woman graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course. Give them a fair chance and some will meet the standard. Dower, a former college rugby player turned professional ultra runner, is arguably the archetype that the military should be recruiting into SOF along with other top athletes. Many like to compare men and women along lines of strength, but grit is far more important in this world. The grit she demonstrated by running daily 50+ mile treks along the rugged course is truly exceptional. #NoExceptions

This is a nonwork topic that I feel - very passionately - that everyone should know about: the history of colonization and the current military occupation of Hawai'i - yes, I said what I said 🤗 I bet you did not know that the islands had one of the highest literary rates 📚 before their government was illegally overthrown by the Dole pineapple guy 🍍 I bet you did not know that the US military paid $1 for 1000's of acres of land only to leave unexploded bombs for children to find 💣 I bet you did not know our largest aquaphor or fresh water source (known as Red Hill) has been knowingly poisoned for decades by the US Navy 🚰 But I bet you might have heard about Mark Zuckerberg's new compound on Kauai, or the entire island that Larry Ellison now owns, or that Marc Benioff just put his name on Hilo's only hospital 🤷 If you are traveling to the islands, please do so responsibly. 🧠 Don't own land where you don't reside. 🏠 Do not take anything from the islands. 🪨 Now more than ever you should plan to give more aloha spirit than you intend to receive, especially while Lahaina is still recovering 🌺 #travel #history #sustainability #occupation #Hawaii Watch: https://lnkd.in/gpB5b8iy

What a transformation
The grandeur of the former Royal Arms Hotel in Gosport has been restored. 👏 Originally established in 1810, it became known as the ‘Submariners Pub’ in the 20th century as it was a regular haunt of submariners returning to Gosport after a tour of duty. As part of our High Street Heritage Action Zone in Gosport, Hampshire, we've restored the canopy and façade so that future generations can enjoy them. We protect and support local historic places that communities can be proud of. #HistoricHighStreets

🚢 Friday the 13th: A Day of Superstition in the Maritime Industry 🌊 Happy Friday the 13th! While many consider this day to be unlucky, it’s particularly significant in the maritime industry. Historically, sailors have been known to be quite superstitious, and Friday the 13th is no exception. 🔍 Did you know? Sailing on Fridays: Traditionally, sailors avoided setting sail on Fridays, believing it to be an unlucky day. The Number 13: The number 13 has long been considered unlucky, and this extends to ships. Some vessels avoid having a 13th deck or even a 13th lifeboat. The Legend of HMS Friday: There’s a popular maritime legend about the British Navy commissioning a ship named HMS Friday to dispel the superstition. The ship was supposedly launched on a Friday, commanded by Captain James Friday, and set sail on its maiden voyage on Friday the 13th. Unfortunately, the ship was never seen again. Bananas on Board: Bananas were considered bad luck on ships. This superstition dates back to the 1700s when ships carrying bananas had to sail quickly to prevent the fruit from spoiling, leading to fewer fish being caught and more accidents. Whistling on Board: Whistling was believed to “whistle up a storm.” Sailors avoided whistling to prevent bad weather. Renaming a Ship: Changing the name of a ship was thought to bring bad luck unless a special de-naming ceremony was performed. Red Sky at Morning: The saying “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight; red sky in the morning, sailor’s warning” was used to predict the weather. A red sky in the morning was seen as a bad omen. Cats on Board: Cats were considered good luck on ships as they kept the rodent population in check and were believed to have magical powers to protect the ship. While these superstitions may seem quaint today, they remind us of the rich history and traditions that continue to shape the maritime industry. Whether you believe in the superstition or not, it’s fascinating to see how these beliefs have influenced maritime culture. Wishing everyone smooth sailing and good luck today! 🌟⚓ #FridayThe13th #MaritimeHistory #Superstition #ShippingIndustry #MaritimeTraditions
