There's a lot of excitement about the potential of using #Bacteriophages as treatment for drug resistant #NontuberculousMycobacteria (#NTM) infections. Because NTMs are intracellular #Pathogens, for this approach to be effective it requires that bacteriophages be able to access and kill #Bacteria while they reside in #HostCells. #CSU Mycobacteria Research Labs researchers Miriam Braunstein, Andrew W., and their collaborators demonstrate the ability of bacteriophages to enter, infect, and kill intracellular NTM bacteria. This supports the use of bacteriophages as #Therapy to treat diseases caused by NTMs and other #IntracellularBacteria.y Authors: Alan Schmalstig, Andrew W., Debbie Badillo, Katherine Wetzel, Graham Hatfull, and Miriam Braunstein. #MycobacteriumAbcessus #Mycobacteria #LungDisease #Phage #PhageTherapy #DrugResistance #MRL #MIP #CSUResearch

It is important to understand limitations of testing types. Too many times I see labs that advertise Syphillis testing with PCR from urine. This gives patients a false sense of comfort. You may be able to detect a primary lesion if the urine stream comes across the ulceration. However, the RPR and antibody remain the best test to date. Let our laboratory experts guide your clinical panel choices based on sound practice and science. https://lnkd.in/dNab3ePm
