Miller is proud to be celebrating the 6th year of our Charitable Giving Program, where we invite our employees to submit an essay sharing which charity holds special meaning to them. This program allows us to support the causes that matter most to our team and make a positive impact in the community. DDX3X Foundation's mission is to connect families, resources, and the medical community to advance research for a treatment or cure to DDX3X Syndrome. Their ultimate goal is to accelerate brain function in individuals affected by DDX3X Syndrome through advances in cell and gene therapy and pharmaceuticals. DDX3X Syndrome is a rare disease caused by a spontaneous mutation within the DDX3X gene at conception or can be inherited. It is often misdiagnosed as autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Rett Syndrome, Dandy-Walker Syndrome, or a generic developmentally delayed label. It is linked to intellectual disabilities, seizures, autism, low muscle tone, abnormalities of the brain, and slower physical developments. Every year Redwood throws an annual charity event, making it a point to prioritize not only giving back, but to spread awareness for different causes and organizations that have touched or affected our coworkers & colleagues. Particularly, my team, Cash Us If You Can, has chosen to support RUNX1 Research Program (RRP), as a member on our team and their family has been impacted by RUNX1-FPD (familial platelet disorder). What is this you might ask? Medically it is a hereditary hematologic malignancy syndrome associated with a pathogenic variant of the RUNX1 gene. And you might also ask, what does that mean? It means that this pathogenic variant affects the stem cells that produce blood cells, which results in the following issues and complications: A lower count of platelets and/or platelet dysfunction, bone marrow deficiencies, various skin disorders, excessive bleeding & bruising, and an increased risk of getting cancer & specifically blood-related cancers.
