Did you know the founding donor of the Smithsonian was not American, nor did he ever set foot in the United States? James Smithson, born around 1765–1829, only admired its founding ideals of equality and freedom. As I explore our nation's capital over the next two days with my family, I reflect on my clients and their founding ideals. What motivates someone to join or support their company? I'm continually amazed by what people are willing to do or sacrifice when they truly believe in something.
