Musician and concert designer | Executive and Artistic Director at Xenia Concerts | Co-director at Pocket Concerts
I'm excited to share that Xenia Concerts is working together with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada to create workshops on leadership, group dynamics, self-care, and accessibility for this year's cohort of young musicians. Kayla Carter, Christie Gray, and the whole NYO team have all been instrumental in getting this project running. We'll explore: -Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: Fostering collaboration and understanding within diverse ensembles. -Inclusive Teamwork: Building healthy boundaries and communication skills to create rewarding, inclusive experiences. -Self-Care Planning: Developing personalized plans to manage stress, recognize limits, and prioritize well-being for a sustainable career. -Inclusive Concert Design: Learning to curate concerts that welcome and resonate with diverse audiences, fostering a sense of belonging. There are many challenges for musicians in the orchestral world, and many situations in which people suffer due to unhealthy power dynamics. It's clear that the problems aren't going to disappear overnight. But we hope that by expanding people's skills and awareness at this crucial stage of development, we can help build a kinder, more supportive future for working artists in Canada. https://lnkd.in/guAyK6tX

EY development and support for infrastructure is a crucial piece of the musical jigsaw.
We are thrilled to be kicking off our Arts Council England funded project 'Creative Cultural Partnerships' which will enable us to work with cultural organisations here in the North West - libraries and museums - to develop early years music sessions. These sessions will follow a shared delivery model where staff in our partner organisations will work alongside Note Weavers to deliver sessions, building skills, knowledge and confidence to be able to deliver sessions independently. We will also work to connect the cultural organisations with their music hubs/services to develop partnerships and sustainability into their music provision for early years. #BaggiBites Stage 22: Identity Crisis Yesterday my phone was alive with debate about this year’s Glastonbury line up - especially the headline acts. I found myself a little relieved I missed out on a ticket after all! It seems every year, its ethos and identity is questioned. This year, respected music critic Neil McCormick argued “Glastonbury has given up on rock - and turned into a children’s birthday party”. 🎸🧒 🎉 It's easy to think Glastonbury is all about the headline acts. Its difference: staying true to its original purpose and beliefs. There is something for everyone: https://lnkd.in/emwBWTS3 Arguably the lack of rock on its stages is a betrayal of the festival’s roots. And the origins of its existence: https://lnkd.in/eMzhC7K2 The identity of Britain 🇬🇧 itself has been brought into question this week, particularly in attracting the best global talent to the creative sector. I find this alarming. The government takes great pride in promoting the creative industry abroad as a key sector to invest in but post-Brexit, this is yet another example of it shooting itself in the foot: https://lnkd.in/ewWbvnTb This fantastic campaign during Black History Month used Spotify to relay speeches by black leaders - powerful, engaging, and a very strong sense of identity: https://lnkd.in/eA7a23jY On a different note, I love the new identity created for Go.Compare. Am I alone in thinking that on TV, its masot, Gio Compario 🇮🇹 is intensely annoying (but I guess that’s the point in this sector). However in digital, animated form, in combination with the new identity, it’s quite charming. Maybe time to replace the real Gio altogether?! (Remember Halifax’s Howard?) https://lnkd.in/ePekHhap Event: If you’d like to see evidence of a founder and company utterly confident in it’s vision, identity and talent, then I’d recommend you see 100 Years of Disney 🐭 at the ExCel: https://lnkd.in/eKecQ8vx This week’s 'Legend Slot': after HMV picking up ‘Specialist Retailer of the Year’ at last week’s Retail Week Awards, I was thrilled to see vinyl records included in the Office for National Statistics Inflation Index for the first time in 32 years. Quite a turnaround 🎶 https://lnkd.in/eUUvmMFW Quote of the week: Walt Disney telling the story of Mickey’s creation: “He popped into my mind onto a drawing pad…on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner.” #identity #branding #storytelling

New Honor Ensemble Conductor Club Member, Let's face it, the world of honor ensemble conducting has often felt like an exclusive club, and getting a foot in the door might have seemed like navigating through a good ole boys' network (with a few women occasionally sneaking in). The unspoken rule: "You conduct mine, I'll conduct yours, and let's enjoy that honorarium on a weekend getaway in Vegas." But here's the scoop: times are changing, and so is the landscape of this so-called club. The good ole boys' roster is dwindling—literally. Now, in this digital era, the question is, how will the world discover your exceptional talent for inspiring young musicians to standing ovation-worthy performances? The answer is simple: https://lnkd.in/eA8xNCWV. It's your digital stage to showcase your brilliance. By completing your profile and uploading a video, you're letting the world in on your unique ability to elevate young musicians to extraordinary heights. Believe me, they're going to know about you, and it won't be long before you find yourself in the Club. Get ready to rewrite the narrative and take center stage!
