June is Endometrial Cancer Awareness Month. Join us in raising awareness At MiMARK we aim to avoid unnecessary diagnostic procedures for any women suspicious of having endometrial cancer (EC). How can science help us to achieve this goal? 🧑🏻🔬 Our body is full of proteins involved in countless processes that are essential for our daily life. Cancers such as EC, can create changes in the quantity of specific proteins that are critical for the progression of the tumor, thus leaving traces of the disease. These 'signature’ proteins, called biomarkers, can be used to diagnose cancer without the need for surgery, and are the basis of many innovative advances in diagnostic tests. At MiMARK, we have identified several of these proteins to detect EC, and we are developing a new diagnostic tool/test, WomEC, that will be able to detect and measure the quantity of these proteins to give a quick and accurate diagnosis to women. #EndometrialCancerAwareness #ECAwareness #WomensHealth #CancerDiagnosis #GynecologicalCancer #ECMonth #FightEC #Innovation #MiMARK

Cancer precursor project - characteristics of premalignant precursors, part 2 (brain and eye tumors) The goal of our cancer precursor project is to better understand how cancer arises by compiling a regularly updated spreadsheet of all distinct human cancers (currently 1232) and their premalignant precursors (currently 191). In part 1 of this series, we noted that the percentage of identified precursors varies widely by pathology subspecialty and discussed precursors for subspecialties with epithelial sites (breast, head & neck, gyn, GI/liver, GU/adrenal and thoracic). In this essay, we discuss actual and possible malignant precursors associated with neuropathology. Based on our work, it now appears that most brain and eye malignancies do NOT have a morphologic precursor. They may be initiated by a defining mutation in a single stem or progenitor cell or small cluster of cells that multiplies and acquires additional malignant properties over time. Due to its small size, detection may not be possible, at least with current methods, until it is large enough to be clinically evident. #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth Analysis of cell-free DNA methylation, alone or combined with CA125 biomarker, could help to detect ovarian cancers earlier and may reduce mortality 🔓 OPEN ACCESS ➡ https://lnkd.in/ezdecj7S Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Our findings indicate that combining cell-free DNA methylation analysis in three genetic regions with CA125 may improve the sensitivity of ovarian cancer detection in high-risk women. Women with a positive score in either diagnostic modality, particularly double-positive individuals, could be referred for a PET-CT scan to rule out a positive result due to a different cancer, and could undergo surgery even in the absence of a visible ovarian tumour on imaging given the high specificity of cfDNAme.

📃Scientific paper: Ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid masquerading as metastatic carcinoma of the lung: a rare case scenario Abstract: BACKGROUND: The intrapulmonary ectopic thyroid gland is exceedingly rare since the ectopic thyroid was discovered. Only eight cases have been reported in the worldwide literature. We present a case of multiple intrapulmonary ectopic thyroid glands with nodular goiter in a 10-year-old girl. CASE PRESENTATION: The girl was found with multiple intrapulmonary nodules in bilateral lungs during the treatment of nodular goiter. The intrapulmonary lesions were initially thought to be a high possibility of metastatic cancer. A computed tomography-guided percutaneous lung biopsy was performed, and the pathological examination confirmed that the diagnosis was ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid. CONCLUSION: The ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid should be considered when children with nodular goiter presenting with suspected metastases in the lung. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1186/s12887-023-04003-3. In honor of National Cancer Control Awareness, we'll be sharing some facts and figures all month long. 🗒️ What are the 4️⃣ most common types of cancer in men and women? 🎗️ In 2023, the following cancer types accounted for almost 50% of all new diagnoses in the U.S: 1️⃣ Breast - 300,590 2️⃣ Prostate - 288,300 3️⃣ Lung and Bronchus - 238,340 4️⃣ Colon and Rectum - 153,020 In 2024, the projected number of new cancer diagnoses is expected to surpass more than 2 million in the U.S. 🗓️ 📌 Remember - Early detection is key so patients have the greatest chance of successful treatment. A CT scan is effective first step for spotting the location and extent of cancer as well as any blood vessels that are currently feeding the tumor. #NationalCancerControlMonth #CancerAwareness #3dimaging #radiology #EarlyDetectionSavesLives

I recently completed a fantastic Educan course (online) on oral cancer screening, biopsy and laser treatments for the same. And I would like to share my thoughts on it, I'd like to extent my sincere thanks to the team and all the excellent speakers, who contributed to the development of this course. It's an invaluable resource for anyone interested in healthcare and oral cancer screening and early diagnosis. This course is divided into 4 modules each offering a unique perspective on oral cancer screening. Module 1 - Oral cancer prevention and Early detection Module 2 - Investigation of oral cancer ( radiology and histopathology) Module 3 - Dental oncology and Maxillofacial prosthetic Module 4 - EXAM This course has provided me an unique opportunity to learn from leading experts and gain insights into how one should examine mouth and lymph nodes and can detect premalignant lesions and early diagnosis can be made, and lives could be saved. I highly recommend it to anyone in healthcare and is interested in conducting oral cancer screenings. Thanks again to Asian head and neck cancer organization for this outstanding educational opportunity! #asianheadneckcancer #oralhealth #oralcancer #educan2.0 #oralwellness #oralhealthcare #oralhealthmatters #nosmoking #notobacco #worldhealthorganization #publichealth #diagnosis #prosthetics

Early detection saves lives. Don't wait, get checked for rectal cancer today! Rectal cancer, the tenth leading cancer in India, starts as a growth of cells in the rectum, which is the final segment of the large intestine. Early stages of rectal cancer may not always present with noticeable symptoms, making regular screenings crucial for early detection. 📞 094402 33339 📧 dr.anveshdharanikota@gmail.com 🌏 dranveshcancercare.com 📍 Best Cancer Specialist | Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeon - Medicover Cancer Institute, Hi-tech City, Hyderabad. . . . . . . #rectalcancer #colorectalcancer #cancerawareness #cancersupport #fightcancer #coloncancer #rectalcancerawareness #cancersurvivor #healthawareness #cancerresearch #dranveshdharanikota #bowelcancer #fightcancer
