🌱COP29: Responsible Actions through ESG Communications🌱 Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending an insightful discussion led by the empowering Nigar Arpadarai, focusing on the importance of transparent and effective ESG communications, particularly in ensuring that everyone is engaged in taking responsible actions, from large corporations to SMEs. A focal point of the discussion revolved around the need for SMEs to play an active role in ESG initiatives. SMEs form the backbone of many economies, and their involvement is key to achieving lasting impact. By fostering inclusive dialogues, we can ensure that businesses of all sizes, coming from a wide range of industries, contribute meaningfully to the sustainability agenda. Equally important is the focus on transparency and consistency in ESG communications, both within the private and the public sectors. Indeed, clear and consistent communication concerning ESG efforts not only builds trust, but also encourages collaboration and meaningful partnerships. This event served as a great reminder of the collective effort required to meet our climate goals! #COP29 #ESG #Sustainability

Much of our recent work at BCG's Center for Sustainability Policy & Regulation has been focused on the 'net cost of inaction' and the promise of 'green growth'. I am pleased to see these complementary themes reflected in the open letter to government leaders from the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders ahead of COP29. The letter recognises that "every fraction of a degree counts" whilst making a strong case for green growth. Members of the Alliance have reduced their own emissions by 10% in 3 years (ahead of the EU, US, India and China) whilst achieving strong business performance. Boston Consulting Group (BCG) is proud to be a signatory to the Letter, which calls on governments to: 🎯 Develop more ambitious, credible, and investable NDCs 💰 Scale up climate finance and de-risk private capital flows 🚧 Remove transition obstacles to deliver on COP28 pledges 🚀 Support breakthrough technologies to reach commercial scale Read the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/e3SbHNyV #COP29 #BCG #AllianceofCEOClimateLeaders #ClimateAction Ester Baiget, Jesper Brodin, Rich Lesser, Sumant Sinha, Feike Sybesma, gim huay neo, Pedro G Gomez Pensado, Pim Valdre, Dr. Patrick Herhold, Cornelius Pieper, Nicolas Salomon

EFRAG and CDP reveal enhanced compatibility for their reporting standards to advance global sustainability reporting 🚀 Yesterday, on November 12, at COP29, EFRAG and CDP announced high interoperability between the CDP questionnaire and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Their collaboration aims to make sustainability reporting easier and more efficient for global organizations, aligning CDP’s questionnaire closely with ESRS climate standard (ESRS E1). 👉 Key highlights: 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Companies using ESRS will find it easier to complete CDP disclosures and vice versa, thanks to a detailed mapping scheduled for early 2025. 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: As a key market adoption partner for EFRAG, CDP is set to support the global uptake of ESRS, benefiting companies preparing for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: In 2025, CDP will enhance ESRS alignment in its questionnaire and offer new insights on ESRS-aligned data to the market. Read the press release below 👇 PS: You can maintain both ESRS and CDP data in Envoria. #esrs #cdp #esg #climate #COP29

Just in time for #COP29: Sustainability tweeting triumphs during the COP events: analysing environmental, social and governance (ESG) communication on twitter With the recent conclusion of the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP) 28 in the United Arab Emirates, this study aims to investigate the tweeting behaviour of firms surrounding COP events. The authors analyse the environmental, social and governance (#ESG) tweets from the COP 26 and COP 27 events, aiming to deepen the understanding of the complex relationships between social media communication, industry characteristics and financial performance. This timely analysis is critical for assessing how the latest global discussions on climate change are influencing corporate communication strategies on sustainability, offering fresh insights into the evolving dynamics of ESG engagement in the context of these pivotal international meetings. The research findings introduce four novel distinct groups – Unengaged, Catalysts, Cautious and Shapers – based on firms’ proactive or reactive sustainability communication patterns. The results explore the potential impact of COP event locations on tweeting behaviour, proposing that conferences held in different regions, such as Asia versus Europe, may elicit varied reactions from S&P 500 firms. Despite no significant inter-industry differences in tweeting habits, the authors discover a significant link between firms’ financial metrics, specifically CARs, and their categorised communication styles. The results challenge the simplistic view that higher social media engagement leads to positive financial outcomes, suggesting instead that lower financial performance may drive firms to adopt more extreme communication patterns, possibly as a strategic move to enhance corporate legitimacy. https://lnkd.in/gb_JkFuU
