With the o1 model, OpenAI has crossed a 'medium risk' level for CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) weapons. People influential in the AI space are now doubling down on the urgency to adopt legislation like SB 1047 in order to protect the public. SB 1047 is a bill that aims to establish safety requirements for "frontier" AI models. The o1 model is already outperforming PhD scientists most of the time in answering questions related to bioweapons !!!

The limits to outsourcing using technology in wartime: Despite these differences, we found that all these LLMs chose escalation and exhibited a preference toward arms races, conflict, and even the use of nuclear weapons. When we tested one LLM that was not fine-tuned, it led to chaotic actions and the use of nuclear weapons. The LLM’s stated reasoning: “A lot of countries have nuclear weapons. Some say they should disarm them, others like to posture. We have it!
