Today is Safer Internet Day. A reminder of the power of connectivity that we all enjoy 24/7 and my gosh, i am so grateful for it because that connectivity brought you and i together! For our younger citizens as well, the internet allows them to build connections and relationships beyond their immediate community, helping them take their place on a global stage. However, it can also be a concern for young people as well as their parents and carers. This is why we at the The Diana Award are involved in Safer Internet Day 2024; a day that puts young people’s voices at the centre of the conversation and gives them a platform to shape the online safety support they receive. For us at The Diana Award, we remain committed to providing young people with the tools to identify their own vulnerabilities online, as well as empowering them to take responsibility for their wellbeing whilst navigating change online. But of course, this is a conversation that goes beyond today. It's one that we must continually push for, educating ourselves and our children on the safe use of the Internet. I am proud to share that our recent survey showed that 97% of Diana Award-trained Anti-Bullying Ambassadors understood how to keep themselves safe online, with a further 91% knowing how to support another student experiencing bullying behaviour online, post our training! . . . #saferinternetday #Safety #onlinesafety #Internet #connectivity #childsafety #ThoughtLeadership

When it comes to personal safety, age should never be a barrier. Even children can benefit from having a personal alarm device. In our video, we demonstrate how these devices can be discreetly disguised while still being effective in times of need. Personal alarms are not just for adults. Children, too, can face situations where they need help quickly. A personal alarm can provide a sense of security and peace of mind for both kids and their parents. It's important to remember that personal safety is a universal concern. By raising awareness about the benefits of personal alarms for children, we can empower families to take proactive steps towards ensuring the safety of their loved ones. These devices are simple to use and can make a big difference in emergency situations. Let's work together to create a safer environment for everyone, regardless of age. Personal alarms are just one tool in our arsenal for personal safety, and by educating ourselves and our children about their importance, we can better prepare for any unexpected circumstances. Remember, safety knows no age limit, and it's never too early to start prioritising our well-being. See below for more links that can help you improve your own personal safety. As a concerned parent, I'm taking a stand to address the alarming issue of school shootings. It's time to put our heads together and implement effective solutions to ensure the safety of our children and educators. Let's start by: 1. Enhancing school security measures, such as metal detectors, surveillance systems, emergency response protocols, and state funded school resource officers at every school building. 2. Promoting mental health awareness and providing resources for students and staff. 3. Encouraging open dialogue and reporting systems to identify potential threats. 4. Implementing comprehensive background checks (including mental health) for firearm purchases. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer environment for our future generations. Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below! #SchoolSafety #StopSchoolShootings #ProtectOurChildren

Here are 2-3 basic self-defense tips for kids that are easy to understand and practice: Trust Your Instincts and Speak Up: If something feels wrong or uncomfortable, it's important for kids to trust their instincts. Teach them to speak confidently and say "No" loudly if someone is making them feel unsafe. This helps draw attention to the situation. Stay at a Safe Distance: Encourage kids to maintain a safe distance from strangers or anyone making them feel uncomfortable. If someone tries to grab them, they can step back and shout, “Stay away!” or “Help!” to alert others around. Use Simple Escape Techniques: Break free from wrist grabs: If someone grabs their wrist, they can twist their arm toward the attacker’s thumb and pull away. Run to safety: After breaking free, it's important to run to a safe place, like a trusted adult or crowded area, and seek help immediately. These tips help children stay alert, aware, and safe in uncomfortable or potentially dangerous situations. #sosdfoundation #selfdefence

Dear Parents, As we embark on the summer holidays, it's essential to keep our children's online safety in mind. Here are three crucial points to consider: 1. *Awareness of Online Threats*: Engage in open conversations with your children about potential online threats, such as grooming, bullying, and stalking. Educating them about these dangers can empower them to make safer choices online. 2. *Monitoring Online Activities*: Keep track of your children's online activities by setting up parental controls and regularly reviewing their browsing history. This can help you identify any red flags early on and take necessary actions to protect them. 3. *Setting Clear Guidelines*: Establish clear guidelines for internet and online game usage. Set limits on screen time, encourage balanced use of technology, and promote offline activities to ensure a healthy balance in their lives. By working together, we can create a safer online environment for our children. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to their well-being. Warm regards, Dr Eshwari Prabhakar Principal,Visakha Valley School
