In-Office Dementia Test Just the First Step in Getting a Diagnosis Dear Carol: My mom is showing signs of compromised decision-making ability as well as some short-term memory loss. I understand that there are quick, in-office tests for dementia that people can take. Should we ask Mom’s doctor to administer one? My grandmother had Alzheimer’s, so we’re both skittish about this. I think it’s better to know if she’s developing Alzheimer’s, but she says there’s no point since there’s no cure.
