Mommer: who are you? Me: it’s Jenny, Mom. I’m Jenny. Mommer: oh Jenny. Right. How many of us are there? Three? Me: Us? Mommer: yes. We are three sisters. Me: Yes. You are right. There are three sisters. *fighting back tears as the conversation continues* Mommer: You are the good sister. Well at least I am the “good sister.” These days more often than I am her daughter, I am her sister. But she still knows me. No matter what. I’ll take it. #dementia #dementiacare #dementiaawareness

Simplicity in Complexity (Elderly Care) Life can be complex to the extent we want it to be or it can be simple as one can make it to be. Most of us live a simply complicated life (oxymoron), but then as we sit on the beach front and watch the Sunset, we try to uncomplicate the same life. Life in the fast lane has its own disadvantages, we disconnect ourselves with ourselves (double ourselves written intentionally) because social media and mind games take the front seat and do not permit us to see behind the curtains. As they say, the show must go on, but then at what cost? Comparing the concept of Simplicity in Complexity, recently I learnt that someone close to our family who had lost both her lower limbs a few years back recently lost her support system, which was her brother, in brief she is now completely dependent on good Samaritans. The larger point of debate is, being an elderly spinster, with no money, no feet and no one to look after, what does such an individual do to survive? In India, being poor is a curse, to top it up, being a woman, being poor and being disabled is something to be thought about, in my opinion, it will give the chills to even think about being in such a situation. This individual was not always disabled, she lost both her feet a few years ago due to which she became completely dependent. Because of losing her feet and being elderly she could not financially sustain herself beyond a certain point. The question is, can this not happen to any one of us, incase it happens, then what? Life is complicated but then we do not want to simplify it, probably we have gone beyond the point of no return. To conclude, there is a dire need to have well implemented elderly care support systems which can come in handy as a rain check. Luckily for India there are a few NGO's who have been silently trying to do their part, one of them is "Agewell Foundation". I guess at the end of the day, it's finding a simple way of living in a complex world. Supporting Caregivers - Dare the Freedom to Be Yourself - 🎤TedX speaker 👂Certified Gestalt-therapist - 📚Author
Hi, I continue to pamper the space where I am welcoming you to support you in the face of your difficult task as a caregiver for a loved one who is losing autonomy or at the end of their life. I have created a Facebook group but a friend told me about the disadvantages of this option, whereas I thought it would be easy for you who are already probably on Facebook, I wanted it to be easily accessible. Could you please tell me where you would prefer to be for a support community? Option 1: A Facebook group, that I am arranging so that you can easily find everything I have for you in there. Option 2: A distinct platform, without the bother of Facebook notifications and with more available options. I would really like your opinion. Meanwhile, I continue to prepare the launch of my YouTube videos to support you. My first series will be about different aspects of caregiver stress. I’m counting on you to let me know if you prefer option 1 or option 2 for the community. TTFN! (That is Tigger’s way of saying goodbye in Winnie the Pooh, in case you didn’t know, it stands for “Ta Ta For Now” and I like it) PS: If you don’t have it yet, download my free guide “3 keys to avoid regrets with your declining loved one” here: https://lnkd.in/gBKdTvWn #caregivers #endoflife #endoflifecaregiver #caregiversupportgroup #supportingcaregivers #familycaregivers #lossofautonomy #darethefreedomtobeyourself #3keys0regrets

Navigating the Unseen Role of Caregiving 🌼 Last year, and especially in the past three weeks, I stepped into the profound role of caregiving for my ageing father. Balancing this responsibility with work and family has been an eye-opening journey, underscoring the reality that many will encounter this phase, be it in parenting or caring for loved ones with special needs or with growing age. As Rosalyn Carter aptly put it, caregiving touches us all, directly or indirectly. In India alone, nearly 190 million grapple with incurable conditions, often relying on family for daily care. The emotional, physical, and informational needs of family caregivers are immense. Some years back I got associated with Caregiver Saathi , a support group for caregivers started by a dear friend Bhavana Issar. Until now the community was just a group that I was a part of. Today, as I immerse myself in this role as a caregiver, the insights and conversations within the Caregiver Saathi community resonate deeply. I am even more in appreciation and admiration for this initiative started by Bhavana. Caregiver Saathi™️ stands as a pillar of support, fostering a holistic ecosystem for caregivers and care receivers alike. Through educational resources, community engagement, and professional services, they've carved a path of empowerment and healing. It also prompts a crucial reflection: Are organizations attuned to life's evolving stages of their employees? For many these roles get added just at the peak of their career. With the demands of caregiving being universal and relentless, perhaps it's time we advocate for inclusive caregiving leaves, transcending gender biases. I’m curious to know what you or your organisations are doing towards supporting your employees in their caregiving responsibilities. #CaregiverSupport #LifeBeyondWork #EmpathyMatters #WorkLifeBalance in harmony Sandhya R nidhi shah Abhina Aher Aditya Batavia Shaman Gupta Shabari Madappa Vieshaka L Dutta (She, Her) Alka Nalavadi andy Kashyap Gopika Kapoor Nandita Vohra Nishtha Nishant

well said Bhavana Issar. In the realm of cinema, storytelling has always been a powerful tool for shaping narratives and collective understanding. However, when it comes to portraying the suffering of women, there's still much ground to cover. As caregivers, women often find it challenging to share their stories - tales of pain, anger, shame, and resilience. But these narratives hold the potential to rewrite the script for younger generations. #Caregiving is a sacred yet challenging journey, marked by invisible battles with grief, guilt, and loneliness. But it's also a universal experience, offering opportunities for support, inspiration, and healing. At Gentle Warrior, we're committed to amplifying these stories of resilience and empowerment. With Season 4 "Warrior Wisdom" on the horizon, we invite caregivers to join us in rewriting the narrative. Together, let's pave the way for change and inspire others to share their stories. Join us in this transformative journey of storytelling and support. Please use the links below to share your stories. #GentleWarriors #Storytelling #Changethenarrative

Stories, Suffering and Women: The play of social conditioning How stories (and movies) have shaped our narratives, collective understanding of suffering, especially that of women.... This is particularly true for women who are #caregivers... And find it difficult to tell their stories - the stories of pain, anger, shame, resentment, regret... We can change these narratives for younger women - let's understand and see caregivers for everything that it entails. Caregiving is sacred - *and* it is challenging in many ways. A shoutout to all “Gentle Warriors” - that's how we fondly refer to #Caregivers Most of these journeys are invisible to others, especially the battles with difficult emotions like grief, guilt, anger, shame, resentment or frustration. #Caregiving journeys are unique, unpredictable and lonely – however, as it is a universal experience, we are not alone and sharing our story can help us support and inspire many others and at the same time ground and heal ourselves. Now, Gentle Warriors - you can also be Change makers! like so many who have already shared their stories Season 1- https://lnkd.in/dMb8SPp9 There are 3 seasons already and we’re thrilled to announce Season 4 of Gentle Warrior: "Warrior Wisdom"! We're seeking caregivers interested in sharing their #stories and experiences with us. Be a #changeMaker To participate in Warrior Wisdom, please fill out the form, and we'll connect with you. You could even nudge someone who you know has been a Gentle Warrior- and they must tell their story.
