It's great to be well-liked. It may mean that we are empathetic and compassionate. It may also mean that we derive validation from the idea of being liked by others. We change our behavior and boundaries to do what we think will make others accept us. That is a treacherous road for our own #mentalhealth. Research shows that this attitude leads to self-criticism, #burnout, and severe mental health outcomes over a lifespan. On the other hand, the practice of developing #selfcompassion is strongly associated with psychological well-being, increased feelings of connectedness, as well as decreased #anxiety and #depression. We make changes that may be hard but are meaningful because we care about ourselves. As Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close today, it’s important to remember that caring for our mental health is a lifelong practice. A fundamental part of this practice is a #mindfulshift in how we relate to ourselves. If we can move away from drawing our self-image from what others think of us, we are able to move into alignment with our true selves. That’s the path to authentic relationships and more compassionate workplaces and communities. It's great to be well-liked, but it’s more important to like ourselves. https://lnkd.in/eM3DUSRj #TakeAMentalHealthMoment #mentalhealthmatters #mentalwellbeing #mindfulness #balance #staffing #recruiting #recruitment Mindlance India Mindlance Health RebootTalent Vik Kalra Rajat Paul Dhall Rick Ryan Nicki Oakley Dana Ailsworth
