Today we recognize #NationalPTSDAwarenessDay and June as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. Let's take a moment to honor the strength and resilience of those living with #PTSD. Traumatic events—accidents, assaults, military combat, or natural disasters—can have lasting effects on mental health. For some, these effects lead to PTSD, affecting 3.6% of U.S. adults, around 9 million people, with 37% experiencing severe symptoms. Women are more likely to develop PTSD than men. Symptoms can include distressing memories, avoidance, negative thoughts, and hypervigilance. They often start within three months of the event, but sometimes emerge years later. There is #hope and help available! Treatments range from psychotherapy and medication to self-management strategies like #mindfulness 🧘🏻♀️ and service animals 🐾 At NAMI South Bay, we offer support groups 🤝 and classes 📚 for those living with PTSD and their loved ones. Remember, reaching out is a sign of strength. Together, we can raise awareness, provide support, and advocate for better mental health care 💚 #PTSDawareness #MentalHealthMatters #YouAreNotAlone #NAMISouthBay #NAMI

As a mental health advocate, I want to share some insights from a recent article on PTSD treatment basics: PTSD is treatable. Those who've experienced trauma can learn to feel safe and manage stress effectively. Treatment isn't one-size-fits-all. Work with your healthcare provider to find the best approach for you. Talk therapies, especially trauma-focused ones, show strong results: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Prolonged Exposure (PE) These therapies help you process trauma through visualization, discussion, or addressing unhelpful beliefs. Medications can also help. Top options include paroxetine, sertraline, and venlafaxine. Treatment takes time and commitment, but the benefits are life-changing. Quality care involves: Choosing the right treatment Working with qualified providers Actively participating in your recovery Monitoring progress and adjusting as needed Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength. If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD, there are effective treatments available. Let's continue to raise awareness and support those on their journey to recovery. #MentalHealth #PTSDAwareness #TraumaRecovery Jerry Jordan Kynnie Martin TERRIE LILLIE Terrie Browning Brenda Minge Christina Ryan Claire Bicknell David Hansen Tina Baxter MS. Grief is a universal human experience, and alongside well-documented PTSD, there's another facet called Complicated Grief. This Grief Awareness Day, we honor the experiences of those who serve our country, particularly veterans who often carry the weight of both. At Persistent Technology, our mission is to enhance lives through healthcare technology. #ReflectXR, our immersive therapy project, extends a helping hand to service members and veterans coping with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). We've learned that many of these heroes battle not just TBIs but also PTSD and complicated grief, among other challenges.
