#FRIDAYFUNFACTS Did you know? The name for lithium comes from the Greek lithos, which means stone. Lithium occurs in most igneous rocks, although it doesn't occur freely in nature. #TGIF #happyfriday #fridayvibes #fridaymood #fridaymotivation

Tabular Intrusive Bodies refer to the flat, elongated masses of igneous rocks that have been injected into the surrounding rock units. These bodies can be divided into two main categories: Dikes and Sills. https://lnkd.in/eFtmm9p8

Black Tourmaline Healing Properties, Meanings, Uses, Benefits The black tourmaline stone is scientifically called Schorl, which makes up about 95% of all natural tourmaline present on Earth. Schorl is not the only tourmaline species: there are other tourmalines as well which are found in different colors. This mineral can be formed via a variety of geological processes. Some of the processes through which black tourmaline can be formed are as follows. The black tourmaline can be formed via magmatic activity where it crystalizes from molten rocks. Or it can originate from hydrothermal processes where extremely high-temperature mineral-rich fluids deposit the Black Tourmaline crystal in cavities and fractures of the host rock. Plutonic rocks are igneous rocks that form deep underground when magma cools and solidifies within the Earth's crust. Magma is hot, molten rock that originates deep within the mantle. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dY5zYikC

The birthstone for the month of August is Peridot. Peridot, sometimes called chrysolite, is a yellowish-green transparent variety of olivine. Peridot is one of the few gemstones that occur in only one colour. Peridot can be found in mafic and ultramafic rocks occurring in lava and peridotite xenoliths of the mantle. The gem occurs in silica-deficient rocks such as volcanic basalt and pallasitic meteorites. Peridot is one of only two gems observed to be formed not in Earth's crust, but in the molten rock of the upper mantle.

The Earth's early crust was made up entirely of igneous rocks, which formed when molten rock from the Earth's interior cooled and solidified. Over time, these rocks were exposed to weathering and erosion, which broke them down into smaller and smaller pieces. These sediments were then transported by water and wind to other locations, where they were deposited and compacted. Eventually, these sediments were buried deep enough to be subjected to high temperatures and pressures, which caused them to transform into metamorphic rocks. Metamorphic rocks can also be melted down to form magma, which can then cool and solidify to form new igneous rocks. This process of rock formation and transformation is known as the rock cycle. It is a continuous process that has been happening on Earth for billions of years. Here is a simplified diagram of the rock cycle.

Did you know that recent studies show the existence of a vast mass of #granite underneath the surface of the moon’s dark side the size of 50km in diameter? Its presence is an extremely rare event as it takes water and plate tectonics – usually absent on the moon – to create granite which suggests that the conditions on this specific surface of the moon have shifted throughout time. The origin behind this mass of granite is yet unknown; however, scientists have been able to identify that this formation is lying beneath a series of old volcanoes called the Compton-Belkovich complex. It is believed that when radioactive magma cooled without erupting, it created underground rock formations also known as granite. For more info, you can visit: https://lnkd.in/dEDrWiVb

Sapphires Gemstone. Sapphires are one the Four Big Gemstones. Sapphires have intrinsic value much more than Gold. Sapphires Hardness are 9.0 on a MOH Scale of Hardness. Sapphires are formed from Igneous and Metamorphic rocks which takes over 500 years to form after the volcanic period.
