Never shared this edit of the Balmain FW 24 show. 1/23/24 Audacious Triumphant Chase to Be the Best Balmain Yet. Balmain has always been a brand I respected and viewed often to keep up with them, like many brands. But when I tell you this opening look had me transfixed like no other, it is seriously jaw dropping and had me perplexed at how something starting the show so strong could possibly be followed up and done justice. Olivier has always intrigued me as one of the great showmen of this generation of designers, like a Lee McQueen, holding a fashion show is a show, first and foremost. That's the way I like fashion shows. To be marvels of artistic ability and creative depth. Well, from the first look. It was apparent, in everyone's face, no way to deny it, this was going to be a show for the record books. And I'll go as far to say it has an early run for men’s show of the year. Now to the review. _________________ The show's opening look immediately starts the journey, with one of the most exciting coats I have ever laid my eyes on. A jacket with so much to it, visually and structurally, it was hard to comprehend how it can be constructed to such perfection. Embellished meticulously to create a striking face of a woman, from eyes to nose to lips it never ceases to be stunning. To be followed by striking sweaters, then tops, then shirts, then a silhouette of lips on the chest of a button down. 4 looks broken down from an initial idea. A journey you’ve taken already, from final product to possible initial inspiration. In merely minutes something with that much of a story was told. Lips tell such a story, each brand has a motif that is representative of its heritage, could lips be the next identity of Balmain? Well with the prominence and strength in diversity of it starting front and center on a chest, to detailing a small handbag, like a muse leaving her marks on her suitors things. Lips that alluringly dance around the stage. Immediately like a where's Waldo I am searching for the next pair of lips, belts, to entire ensembles overrun with brilliant red lips. Sensual to say the least, mysterious in value, story of the unknown purpose creates attention to each and every detail. The marvelous way each garment finds a creative way to show the lips, as a main or tertiary detail. From look to look it finds its way there, whether a cummerbund that is shaped like lips or a shoe detail with it on. It's inescapable. Not to be overlooked are the patent and sheer fabrics that illuminate a dark outfit. Suiting that is intricately made to be something it’s different from the normal. Ribbing, pipping, cuts and biases morph the jackets to something new. Faces show up on the wearer from the cuts made so precisely in fabrication. Inspiration of matadors seem apparent but also deconstructed to be just visible an idea but not the full body of work.

What really is fashion designing or designing in general ? It's not only what your brain thinks but what your heart feels. It's your emotions that you feel at the moment , it's your mood , your happiness, your anger , your insecurities, your confidence and everything that goes around and inside you. When actor Blake Lively wore a pair of $19,000 designer jeans to a screening of her latest movie, “It Ends with Us,” the look attracted plenty of attention. And the price did not go unnoticed. Of course, there were the aghast social media comments, those are to be expected, but the moment also inspired a reasonable question: How much is too much to spend on jeans? Featuring thigh-to-heel cut-outs and hibiscus-shaped embroidery, the denim pants by Italian fashion house Valentino, were styled with a simple white tank, Christian Louboutin heels, hoop earrings and Lively’s signature long tousled hair. These jeans are something of an outlier, having been designed — undoubtedly — with celebrities and the 1% in mind. They are a conversation starter; they are about fantasy, they are not for the school drop-off. So, perhaps the real question is: With such a range in prices, and so many options, how should you decide which jeans are right for you? And what are you really getting for your money?
