UPDATE: Per PWU's instagram, pressure from the imminent strike led to a bargaining breakthrough, and the union has halted the strike. Congratulations to the PWU bargaining team and I hope the agreement turns out well! -- The Sierra Club staff in the Progressive Workers Union go on strike tomorrow, to fight unfair labor practices and earn a fair contract. Solidarity means not crossing their picket lines, even online! Thankfully, the PWU has put out a helpful guidance doc (linked below). A couple of highlights: -do not visit the Sierra Club website -do not join meetings with Sierra Club staff -do not respond to emails from the Sierra Club or Sierra Club staff if at all possible -do not engage with Sierra Club social media If this isn't possible for you, PWU asks that you speak out in support of strikers when you engage with the Sierra Club--whether that's in your email, on a video call, or in person. https://lnkd.in/gtzhP6N5

A great précis by Jo Francis summarising the pressure growing in the paper manufacturing sector in Finland. As per my post earlier in the week anyone relying on this supply chain should factor in for additional disruption over the coming short to mid term. The firm stance being taken across the sector by both sides is unprecedented and we will all have to track progress on the key issues and actions taken by both the unions and employers. The Finnish government legislative changes will no doubt be a key element affecting this and the speed of their progress will no doubt compound the situation further. The additional factor of collective agreements being terminated by the main industry unions will be a concern to all who recall the impact of those negotiations two years ago and the chaos and price increases they had across the market due to constrained supply. #paperindustry #packaging #print #strike #finland #labels #cartons
Deliveries from Finnish paper mills are being impacted by a fortnight-long strike that is hitting operations at the country’s ports and freight network.

Week-long German rail strike to spill across Northern Europe German rail workers are amidst a week-long nationwide strike over working conditions and pay disputes with Deutsche Bahn. The strike, called by the GDL union, involves locomotive drivers and transport sector employees, causing disruptions in Germany's inland freight transport. Hapag-Lloyd anticipates rail freight delays impacting ship handling in German ports. While the Port of Hamburg Marketing expects no major restrictions, the European Rail Freight Association warns of significant consequences for the broader North Europe network, describing the strike as "disproportionate" and causing financial damage along the critical Rhine-Alpine rail corridor connecting Rotterdam and Milan. https://lnkd.in/dBPZmKfY

Paranagua - Stevedores threat to go into strike The Stevedores National Federation has notified that they intend to strike from March 6th for an indefinite period of time. The reasons for the strike are several outstanding demands towards the employers that have not been attended to in a timely manner. This notification has been delivered only today, catching everyone by surprise. At Paranagua, specifically, the stevedores have not yet confirmed whether they will stop working or continue normally while they observe what will happen in other ports. Given all this uncertainty, we will follow up on the developments and revert with further information in due course. Marcon Logística PortuáriaPortos do Paraná

There are 2 separate union issue happening at Canada West Coast a. TCRC breakdown in negotiation with CN and CPCK (rail companies), highly likely CIRB will issue findings that strike by TCRC will not impact critical services; TCRC is already proceeding with strike vote (due 29 Jun) to ensure they could call for strike (w 72 hrs prior notice) in Jul 2024. The current strike mandate is valid till 30 Jun 2024. b. ILWU Local Chapter 514 refuse to accept BCMEA final offer and vote to strike was completed on 15 Jun 2024; The impact will be more pinpoint to DP World Vancouver Centerm terminal. This will take some time to play out as CIRB is call to intervene in the negotiation. All in all, eventful summer peak is coming ... As any disruption to PNW will be felt by PSW, adding onto the lack of progress on US East Coast/Gulf Coast between ILA and USMX. Plus resumption of Red Sea conflict in the background.
