We invite you to provide feedback on the proposed coal seam gas (CSG)-induced subsidence management framework. This framework aims to manage the impacts or predicted impacts of CSG-induced subsidence on agricultural land, and to promote coexistence between the resources and agricultural sectors. We consulted with the resources and agricultural sectors and regional communities in late 2023 and again in February this year to inform development of the framework. Last month the Queensland Parliament passed the MEROLA Bill without the subsidence framework, which was withdrawn to allow for more consultation. Further consultation is important to allow stakeholders more time to review the framework, and to identify any unintended consequences. We’re committed to a framework that fosters relationships between these key sectors, which are both vital to Queensland's economy. Read more about the proposed subsidence framework and have your say 👉 https://lnkd.in/g6_eQuU3 Consultation is open until 23 September 2024. #CSGSubsidence #Coexistence #QueenslandResources

We are investing $44 million to help small and medium businesses reduce emissions and lower energy costs through technologies, not taxes. Smaller businesses often face financial, timing and other barriers to implementing energy efficiency changes that would benefit their operations. Our investment will help 21 businesses get first-of-kind projects off the ground, including new technologies for power generation, agriculture, forestry, oil and gas, fertilizer, construction, electricity and other sectors. The funding, delivered through Emissions Reduction Alberta’s Emerging Innovators Challenge, will help create jobs, keep businesses competitive and reduce emissions. If successful, the 21 projects are projected to create more than 875 jobs, contribute $238 million to Alberta’s GDP by 2027 and eliminate 5 million tonnes of emissions by 2050. Behind the Scenes: Those of us in the financial services sector recognize the critical importance of natural resources such as oil, gas, and timber in driving Canada's economic growth. These resources serve as the backbone of the economy, providing not only essential raw materials for various industries but also significant revenue streams for the government. Oil extraction, for example, is a key contributor to Canada's GDP, with the country being one of the top oil-producing nations in the world. The revenue generated from oil exports plays a crucial role in funding infrastructure projects, healthcare, education, and other social programs. Similarly, the gas sector contributes significantly to Canada's energy security and plays a vital role in meeting the country's domestic energy demands. Timber, on the other hand, is a valuable natural resource that supports Canada's forestry industry. The forestry sector not only provides employment opportunities for thousands of Canadians but also contributes to the country's export revenue. Sustainable forestry practices ensure the long-term viability of this resource, balancing economic growth with environmental conservation. Overall, the prudent management and utilization of Canada's natural resources are essential for ensuring the country's continued economic prosperity. #FinancialServices #CanadaEconomy #TrustoneFinancial #Resources #Prosperity #Oil #Gas #Timber #GDP

Soil Solutions can play a pivotal role in the Lobito Corridor road network upgrade project in Angola, which is set to receive a substantial €381.5 million investment. Here’s how Soil Solutions can assist: Road Stabilization and Improvement: Soil Solutions offers advanced road stabilization solutions that can be crucial for enhancing the durability and load-bearing capacity of roads within the Lobito Corridor. These solutions are particularly effective in regions with challenging terrains or where traditional asphalt might be cost-prohibitive. Dust Control: Managing dust during and after construction is vital for environmental compliance and community health. Soil Solutions provides environmentally friendly dust control products that can significantly reduce dust during the heavy use expected in the corridor’s upgrade process. Erosion Control: Given the scope of the project, controlling erosion will be essential, especially in areas around the newly constructed or repaired bridges. Soil Solutions’ erosion control techniques can help prevent sediment run-off and protect water quality in nearby rivers and streams. Cost-Effective Construction Solutions: Soil Solutions’ technologies can offer more cost-effective alternatives to traditional road building materials and methods. This can be particularly beneficial given the extensive nature of the upgrades and the need to manage project costs effectively. Environmental Sustainability: Soil Solutions emphasizes sustainable practices that align with Angola’s goal to diversify its economy and enhance agricultural productivity. Their solutions can support the sustainability of the infrastructure by minimizing the environmental impact of road construction and maintenance. Technical Support and Training: Soil Solutions can provide on-the-ground technical support and training to local teams, ensuring that road construction and maintenance techniques are up to international standards and tailored to the specific needs of the Lobito Corridor project. By integrating Soil Solutions’ innovative technologies and expertise, the Lobito Corridor project can achieve enhanced durability and performance of the road network, contribute to economic diversification, and ensure environmentally sustainable development practices. Energy Storage Canada (ESC) welcomes the co-signed letter from the Hon. Todd Smith, (then) Minister of Energy, and Hon. Lisa Thompson, (then) Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs that sets out the Ontario Government | Gouvernement de l’Ontario's considerations for the siting of clean energy projects in prime agricultural areas as they relate to ongoing electricity procurements. ESC is optimistic that the #energystorage sector can work with municipalities, local communities, rural landowners, and farmers to achieve the right balance in supporting the province's vitally important agri-food sector while supporting the continued growth of Ontario's clean energy advantage. We are proud of our role and responsibility our members play in supporting this balance, with farmers – along with First Nations – being significant beneficiaries of recent energy storage procurements through earning of hosting revenues, while many of their local communities benefit from jobs, community investment agreements, and increased tax revenues. Energy storage and smart grid technologies will be vital for the continued growth of our agricultural industries, particularly greenhouse growers and other energy-intensive farmers that are counting on storage for grid congestion relief, and reliability improvements to enable expansions of their facilities. ESC would like to express our gratitude for the open dialogue and engagement undertaken by the Offices of Minister Todd Smith, Minister Lisa Thompson, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and other stakeholders in reaching this policy direction. We look forward to working with the Ontario Government | Gouvernement de l’Ontario, IESO, and other stakeholders on the implementation details in time for our next electricity procurements.
June 6, 2024 Minister of Energy and Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs request protections for agricultural land as part of IESO’s second long-term procurement "Minister Todd Smith and Minister Lisa Thompson issued a letter requesting that the IESO’s second long-term procurement for electricity supply include certain parameters for development on agricultural land. The letter specifies that no new energy projects may be built in specialty crop areas, ground-mount solar may not be sited on Prime Agricultural Areas, all other resource types may only locate on Prime Agricultural Areas if they have received both Municipal Council approval and municipal approval of an Agricultural Impact Assessment (AIA), and rated criteria points should be awarded for projects that avoid Prime Agricultural Areas." #onpoli #energy

Is America's heartland up for grabs? 🟣 Foreign holdings of US agricultural land rose by 50% from 2017 to 2022. 🟣 Renewable energy companies, mostly from Europe, are behind this surge. 👉 Foreign holdings of US farmland have become a political flashpoint, with half of the 50 states passing laws restricting foreign ownership of private land. However, they still make up only a fraction of the country’s agricultural land. Full story by John Egan at the link below 👇 #FDI https://lnkd.in/eaCkuszs
