With the 16th annual WIMWA Summit kicking off tomorrow, we reflect on our journey – from grassroots to industry influence and uplift. 🚀 Proudly celebrating a 21 year legacy, WIMWA has transformed from humble (but passionate) beginnings into a leading voice advocating for workplace equity in the resources industry. Founder Sabina Shugg, alongside a committed steering committee, have not only sustained WIMWA’s growth, but also influenced behaviours and gender balance across the industry. The first event of its kind, the pioneering WIMWA Summit continues to bring together leaders and change-makers to discuss and drive industry-wide progress. “We aspire to keep gently nudging change, by virtue of sharing stories. We take pride in the strong and inspiring community we have nurtured over 21 years, and we welcome everyone to join us.” – Sabina Shugg AM It’s not too late to register here: https://lnkd.in/ggxkbceT Photo credit: Rift Photography

This week in Australia is Harmony Week, with March 21st being observed as #HarmonyDay. Globally, March 21st is also celebrated as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, underscoring the ongoing imperative to actively address and combat racial discrimination. One small step all organisations can take this year is to ensure we celebrate the strong, multicultural communities we've built during Harmony Week, while also acknowledging the work left undone in addressing racial inequality through celebrating #IDERD. As individuals, we can demonstrate our #allyship by focusing on unity and harmony while also being willing to engage in uncomfortable conversations about racial inequality and discrimination. We can do this by actively listening to the experiences of those facing discrimination and using our privilege to amplify their voices. By fostering open dialogue and seeking ways to celebrate our multicultural identity, we can all play a part in forging a more unified Australia. 🔎 Discover our insights for becoming a better workplace ally and stories of allyship in action from organisational Leaders we have coached 👇 https://lnkd.in/gp3cMWmD #InclusiveCulture #CulturalDiversity #InclusiveLeadership

Today, on International Women’s Day, we are proud to reflect on the incredible strides we have made towards fostering a culture of inclusion and respect within our company. To mark the day, our Head of Auction, Gemma D j Loureiro, took part in a panel discussion alongside women and allies in the drinks industry to delve into crucial topics surrounding inclusion and equal opportunities. Hosted by Hannah Lanfear, the panel also included The Whisky Exchange and Speciality Drinks team members dawn davies, Ashley Wickham-Byrne, Liz Lock, Corina Casu, James Childs and Oliver McKinley. By sharing personal experiences through to addressing emerging challenges, each panellist brought their own unique perspective that added depth to the conversation. At our company, we firmly believe in the power of open discussions to drive positive change. By providing a platform where diverse voices can be heard, we not only raise awareness but also actively support each other in navigating new challenges that arise. Our Wellbeing Surveys and Employee Voice Forum have guided the enhancements we have made to our Employee Benefits; including Enhanced Parental Leave, Flexible Working, and Carers Leave. As we commemorate International Women’s Day and this year’s theme of Inspiring Inclusion, we want to carry forward the spirit of this panel discussion. Let’s continue to listen, learn, and uplift one another, ensuring every voice has a place at the table. #InternationalWomensDay #InspiringInclusion #diversityandinclusion #equality #womeninbusiness #opendiscussion

Beyond the Tick Box: Is Woman’s Day another tick box exercise? I've received a number of requests over the last month to host workshops or participate in #WomansDay #celebrations at various organisations. And as I engaged, I had to pause and ask the question if this is another Tick Box exercise. Some may call it arrogance when we challenge the traditional ways that #WomensDay is celebrated, but our aim is to promote #lasting #impact. Did you know that companies with higher levels of gender diversity are 21% more likely to experience above-average profitability? This striking statistic from McKinsey & Company highlights the tangible benefits of diversity in the workplace. Yet, as #NationalWomensDay approaches in South Africa, many organisations miss the mark by treating this occasion as just another tick box exercise rather than a genuine opportunity for strategic growth. #WomensDay should be more than just a symbolic gesture. It should be part of a long-term strategy for inclusion and growth, fostering an environment where #women can truly thrive. We must ask ourselves: Are our initiatives on #WomensDay intentional and authentic, or are they merely superficial acknowledgments that do more harm than good? The Pitfalls of Tokenism Research by Gallup shows that only 35% of women feel engaged at work, compared to 38% of men. So when #WomensDay is reduced to handing out chocolates and hosting once-off events, it risks becoming a gimmick rather than a genuine effort to #empower #women. Such token gestures can harm brand ambassadorship and employee morale, as they fail to demonstrate a real commitment to change. I've come to experience and see just how a simple culture of #IsThereAnythingICanDoForYou can make a meaningful change and foster a more inclusive and supportive workplace. So as we approach #WomensDay this week, and throughout the month, it’s essential to reflect on how they can be more than just a one-day affair. #WomensDay presents an opportunity to spark meaningful change and foster a culture where #women thrive every day, both at home, and at work. At ElevateHer Consulting, we believe in the power of intentionality. Our #EmpowerHer programmes are designed to tap into strategic priorities and unleash potential. We collaborate with organisations to create workplaces that are #inclusive, #supportive, and #sustainable — not just for a single day, but for the long haul. So this #WomansDay, to truly make a difference, let us challenge ourselves to move beyond token gestures and embrace #genuine #impact.
