Loved having the opportunity to share some insights on how student services professionals can convert their practical experiences and programs of work into a journal article for JANZSSA as part of the online professional development webinar last week. For those who missed the session, Nina-Marie Thomas has pulled together a handy recording of the content Megan Pozzi and I covered in the link below including answers to frequently asked questions about journal writing and the submission process. Key takeaways from the session included: ➡ Worker smarter not harder by considering what programs of work, reports or presentations you could repurpose into a journal article, ➡ Exploring opportunities to collaborate, working with contributors from within your own organisation or beyond to share the workload and promote creativity of thought, ➡ Mapping out transferable elements as you craft an article, always keeping in mind, 'what can others gain from reading about my work?' ➡ Reading existing JANZSSA articles, taking note of what reads well and why, and using these techniques in your own writing, ➡ Focusing on structure (organisation and sequence), signposting (navigation and accessibility) and storytelling (maintaining engagement and interest). Here's hoping we inspired just a few of the 70+ professionals in attendance to start the process of writing for JANZSSA, and I look forward to receiving a ton of new submissions in the coming months!
