MinnCAP has teamed up with Minnesota Women's Press to understand how poverty and other barriers can affect communities. Past Kootasca Community Action Big View participants gathered in Grand Rapids on Wednesday as part of the partnership. The women discussed their experiences with the Big View programming with MN Women’s Press editor Mikki Morrissette, as well as community needs and solutions, for future stories in the “Collective Health” online series. This series focuses on how communities around the state are collaborating to address local needs, especially in housing, mental health, and gender-based violence. Hear more about what came out of the gathering at womenspress.com. #CommunityAction #KOOTASCA #BigView #Community #MNWomensPress #WomensPress #HelpingPeople #ChangingLives

BIPOC youth face significant barriers to mental health care, including cultural stigma, racial discrimination, and systemic inequities. Cultural beliefs and fear of judgment discourage seeking help, while discrimination fosters distrust in healthcare systems. Implicit biases and lack of BIPOC representation among professionals lead to misdiagnoses and alienation. Financial constraints and limited access to resources further impede care. Chronic stress from racism and community violence exacerbates mental health issues, and internalized racism affects self-esteem. Addressing these barriers requires culturally competent care, community outreach, increased diversity among professionals, and policy advocacy for equity. Tackling these challenges can better support the mental health of homeless BIPOC youth. #MentalHealth #BIPOCYouth #Homelessness #HealthEquity #EndStigma #RacialJustice #CulturallyCompetentCare #MentalHealthAwareness #YouthAdvocacy

On a "International Women's Day" To save our coming generations, let's make a pledge to stop family violence. "Reflecting on the profound, long-term impact of family violence on children, it's crucial we bring this issue into the light. Children exposed to violence within the family carry the scars far beyond their childhood, experiencing a range of emotional, psychological, and social challenges. These children may face increased risks of developing anxiety, depression, and PTSD, alongside difficulties in forming healthy relationships and achieving academic success. The cycle of violence often continues through generations, making early intervention and support vital. As a community, it's our responsibility to advocate for effective support systems, education, and policies that protect the vulnerable and help heal those affected. Let's unite in breaking the cycle of violence, providing a voice for the voiceless, and paving the way for a healthier, safer future for all children. #StopFamilyViolence #ChildWelfare #HealingJourney" Western Specialist centre #linkedin #IWD2024 #linkedinindia #linkedinconnections #linkedinglobal #linkedincommunity #linkedincommunity #womenempoweringwomen #girlpower #female #womenleadership #domesticviolenceawareness

Join us in celebrating the amazing talents and strengths of neurodivergent individuals this #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek 2024. Did you know that many people experiencing homelessness are also neurodiverse? Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in human brains, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and more. These conditions can make it harder for people to cope with the challenges of homelessness, such as finding and keeping a safe place to stay, accessing services, and managing their health and wellbeing. That’s why our team at Turning Tides adopts a holistic approach that recognises and supports the unique strengths and needs of each individual. Please find out how our physiologically informed environments support clients > Health and Wellbeing - Turning Tides (turning-tides.org.uk) You can learn more about homelessness and Neurodiversity here > Neurodiversity Celebration Week | Homeless Link #endinglocalhomelessness #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #inclusion #diverstiy

“This report shines a shocking light on the vicious cycles of harm faced by far too many women in our society.” Professor Sarah Johnsen A hard-hitting report published today from our researchers in #ISPHERE outline five key priorities to radically improve support for women facing homelessness, substance use and involvement with the criminal justice system. Hard Edges: The Reality for Women Affected by Severe and Multiple Disadvantage funded by Oak Foundation exposes the trauma and exclusion endured by this vulnerable group. It highlights how women are being failed again and again by support services which are often poorly coordinated and unable to meet their complex needs. Setting out urgent recommendations for national and local policymakers, the report was delivered in partnership with individuals with lived experience. It's a hard thing to look well and feel sick. We call that being an Invisible Warrior. You look to the world like a perfectly healthy human being, but you're not. And you feel like you have to act like you're healthy, not telling anyone, not risking the repercussions. Not losing a job or a client. That's hard. No Invisible Warrior should have to go through this journey alone. That's why the nonprofit, Invisible Warriors, has created a private, safe, online community inside the Heartbeat app called the Invisible Warriors Club. It's not another Facebook group with their ability to monitor and censor posts. It's private, only monitored by fellow Invisible Warriors who are there to share and care about you. The Invisible Warriors Club is in an app where you can log in any time and chat with other Invisible Warriors who understand. You can also learn about the latest research, meet experts who support us, take courses on things like patient advocacy, and more. It's a positive space. We aren't there to complain. We're there to make sure all Invisible Warriors don't just survive but THRIVE! Curious? Join Nancy Becher and Ann Maria Hester, M.D. in a live Zoom session where Dr. Hester will present for a short time and then take your questions. Nancy will also answer questions about the Invisible Warriors Club. We hope you'll join us! #InvisibleIllnesses #ChronicDiseases #ThriveDontJustSurvive
Invisible Warriors is getting ready to launch the Invisible Warriors Club -- a safe space where women dealing with ongoing invisible illnesses can come to find friendship, allyship, training and education to support them in their journeys from just living to thriving. Our first program is on May 15 at 11am central time via zoom. It will be a live discussion with Dr. Ann Hester and myself as well as a Q&A session where anyone with questions on either the subject of self-advocacy or on the Club itself can get answers. Save the date NOW. #InvisibleWarriors #InvisibleIllness #SafeSpace #WomenSupportingWomen #Allyship #Empowerment #ChronicIllness #ThriveWithInvisibleIllness #SelfAdvocacy #CommunitySupport #LiveDiscussion #DrAnnHester #InvisibleWarriorsClub

A wonderful piece of research examining women's homelessness (sofa surfing) through the lens of social capital 👏 Highly recommend! This piece is the first of its kind to cover, in a really accessible and thorough way, some of the below; - The gendered relationship between social capital and homelessness - Survival sex: how intimate relationships exacerbate and ameliorate issues around health, drug use, housing, personal trauma, access to services and social capital - Honest and poignant narratives of women's personal experiences and early indicators of homelessness during childhood - The barriers to accessing services designed, primarily, by men and for men - The discrepancy between lived experience and the box ticking of support services in accessing practical support - The limitations of "bridging capital" within support services and accessing social support https://lnkd.in/ejCWPCSC

Giving you the strength to make a change. Everything we do is about giving you the inner strength you need to make those steps towards a brighter future. It’s about allowing you to make positive change in your life – and, in doing so, to inspire and strengthen the people around you. No two journeys are the same, because no two women are the same. One woman may want some help in overcoming depression, while another might want to find her way out of homelessness. One might be surrounded by friends, another might feel she has nobody to turn to. You’re an individual. We’ll make sure you’re never alone. Find out how we can help: https://lnkd.in/ebjEgbKq #Fearless #ForHer #TraumaInformed #BWC #BecauseWeCare
