I'm thrilled to share that my perspective has been published today in EdNC.org, one of North Carolina's leading education journals. It’s an honor to contribute to the conversation about the vital role of community colleges. Community colleges may not always be seen as the most glamorous institutions—you won’t find people cheering for their football teams—but they play an incredibly important role in education and workforce development. They provide accessible, affordable education and hands-on training that truly make a difference in people's lives. As faculty members, many of us have experience in the real world. We bring practical, industry-specific knowledge to the classroom, bridging the gap between education and employment. In today’s world, where it seems like we disagree on just about everything, there’s one area we should all be united on: the need for strong funding and support for community colleges. For many years, IVC has been recognized for our #1 transfer rate, most recently by the U.S. Department of Education which highlighted the community colleges with highest transfer-out rate for Title IV students, by state and Irvine Valley College was identified as the CC with the highest transfer rate within California. What is equally commendable is how well our transfer students perform after they transfer. Data collected by the college reveals that students who transfer from IVC to four-year universities generally achieved higher graduation rates than those who began their academic journey directly at four-year institutions. For IVC’s top 25 transfer institutions, students had on average a 6% higher graduation rate within 4-years after transferring compared to the 6-year graduation rate reported by that institution.  #ivc #irvinevalleycollege #studentsuccess #transferculture #transfersuccess #studentaccess #boldpossibilities

There were mulitple reports out of New York last week about 9 community colleges facing concerns about their accreditation status. Most of the concerns revolved around enrollment and finances. So, I created a community college version of the TOP/Bottom reports.
