July is Disability Pride Month, have you heard of it? This month was introduced to celebrate and amplify disability activists, elevate disabled voices, and rally against ableism in all areas of society. It also seeks to change the way we think about and define disability, promoting that it is a natural part of human diversity to be proud of. So let’s celebrate and amplify disabled voices! Let’s call out ableism where we see it in society. And let’s reassess our perceptions of disability. https://lnkd.in/dUbcXYVh

Now is a great time to reflect on your accessibility efforts! This can include accessibility of physical and digital workspaces, events, and of your website and online platforms. How do you support your employees with disabilities? Are they represented in leadership? Do they have access to an ERG or BRG? Disability means different things within the community and cannot have a one size fits all approach. Society revolves around the able-bodied person and barriers are not always physical - they can include stimulation and psychological factors as well. As an individual with invisible disabilities, I do my best to advocate for myself and others both inside and outside of the workplace, while recognizing the privilege of not having appearent or visible disabilities. This means taking the time to design communications, meetings, and programs around the most disadvantages individuals so that when rolled out, it is inclusive with as many people as possible. How does your organization support and advocate for its disabled population? #disabilitypride #invisibledisabilities #Inclusion
July is Disability Pride Month, a time to honor the incredible achievements and experiences of the disability community. It's also a reminder that 1 in 4 U.S. adults live with a disability, and many still face barriers to inclusion. The Arc of the United States has a powerful message this year: "We Want a Life Like Yours." This theme reflects the desire for equal access to opportunities and experiences that many take for granted. The Arc has a great resource with ideas on how to celebrate Disability Pride Month: https://lnkd.in/gGcrBXz3 Let's work together to create a world where everyone has the chance to thrive! #DisabilityPride #InclusionMatters

July is Disability Pride Month! When you celebrate Disability Pride, you acknowledge and include everyone equally while teaching others to do the same. You also increase knowledge and feelings of psychological safety for all present, which are both paramount to running and sustaining a successful business. Open the door for dialogue around the work that still needs to be done to provide accessibility and inclusion for all. #EmployDifferentThinking #Neurodiversity #DisabilityPrideMonth Read more about this in our blog post, “Why Disability Pride Month Should Be Recognized and Celebrated in Your Company”, written by Jaime A. July is Disability Pride Month! As we celebrate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), signed on 7/26/90, let’s make it a time to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. People with disabilities deserve to live full, self-determined, independent lives—just like everyone else. This year’s theme is “We Want a Life Like Yours,” reflecting the disability community’s dreams for life experiences that are too often denied. For me, this is personal. Can you imagine having a child who doesn’t have friends knock on the door to ask him to play or one who doesn’t get invited to sleepovers and rarely gets invited to birthday parties? Yes, people are polite (most of the time) but he is still treated like a “sometimes friend”. While we’ve made progress, discrimination and ignorance still persist. Let's use this month to educate ourselves, advocate for change, and create a more inclusive society for all. Together, we can do better! #DisabilityAwareness #InclusionMatters
