Found in the Field... Be mindful of vertical drops greater than 3 feet from one horizontal ridge to the next one below when it's a common/shared attic space. It's possible the exhaust vents on the roof below could become the intake vents for the exhaust vents on the upper roof. One solution we discuss in our annual seminars is to isolate the attics making the vertical drop a non-issue. Thanks for finding and sharing this, Jake Jacobson, SF5 Construction, Little Elm, TX. #atticventilation #foundinthefield #3footverticalrule

Found in the Field... One, two, THREE different types of attic exhaust vents on the same roof. Thanks for finding and sharing this, Irving Napert, Futura Building Systems, Dallas, TX. Pick the most appropriate type of attic exhaust vent for the roof shape/attic size and run with it. #donotmixexhaustvents #foundinthefield #atticventilation

It’s 1916. Woodrow Wilson just got re-elected president, gas is 22 cents per gallon, and you are ecstatic about this fine piece of state-of-the-art technology you just had installed. Most have been replaced by now but I still come across these Gravity Furnaces (aka Octopus Furnaces), especially in South Minneapolis. They are pretty straightforward. Each duct goes to a different part of the house and gravity does the work with heated air rising and cool air sinking to be drawn back in and reheated. They really don’t make them like they used to, for better and for worse, as some are still functioning 100+ years later. But due to size, inefficiency, and often the presence of asbestos, most replace them with a modern furnace. Any guesses how much my client was recently quoted for professional removal and replacement for one like this? [Hint: handling asbestos makes everything more expensive] #homes #oldhomes #twincities #minneapolis #realestate #stpaul #history

It's -20℃... You're 4ft deep of frozen earth, minding your own business... Off in the distance, you hear a clickity-clack noise trundling towards you. 190,000lbs+ of pure metal appears on the horizon. The battle is fierce, but that D10T kicked your butt and now you're being transported in a rock truck to a crusher. Not the day you thought you might have. But it's necessary. Why? Because the very ground you were removed from is being shaped and formed to be part of a subdivision that will become homes for 100's of families. So remember...When you open the door to a new home, in a new subdivision...remember. This is how it all starts. Wilco Contractors Southwest Inc.
