If you're worried about people "cheating" with LLMs during your interview process (beyond the initial screening), then your process is horribly broken to begin with.
LLMs are a great tool, and they should not be discouraged in coding especially during the interview. Everyone does not know everything.
I agree. We changed our writing sample requirements in a post LLM world. The rest of our process is largely the same.
Well said Kevin
I encouraged people to use whatever resources (including AI) they want for their interview and then design the interview to demonstrate how they will perform in the company doing what needs done (as best as you can for such a limited window). This is an interview for a job, not a game show.
spot on - if your interview can be passed by chatgpt, you're probably not testing for the right skills
I completely agree! I'm more concerned if interviewers or candidates aren't aware of the capabilities of LLMs or how to use them effectively. If someone believes a candidate could land a job solely by using LLMs, it’s a sign that the hiring process needs serious reevaluation. A robust process should assess critical thinking, problem-solving, and how well candidates can leverage tools like LLMs—not just the tools themselves.
If it's a tool they would be expected to use in the course of the position they're applying for, they should absolutely be able to use it. When I give engineering candidates a coding test, they have full access to any resources they would use as an employee.
