If you're a parent considering an online or hybrid school education, here is a free guide on some of the key questions to ask. Please do share the resource if you think it's helpful. #education
💫 Sharing this free resource I created last year. 📓 It's for parents researching online schooling; 8 Questions to Ask When Choosing an Online or Hybrid School Education. Heather Rhodes recently wrote: "online schooling is in many ways the ‘Wild West’ of education, breaking new frontiers, but lacking recognition or regulation from governments. 'The unregulated nature of online education allows for a wide range of quality of provision, from schools striving for academic excellence, to others where provision is chaotic and profits are prioritised over quality." ℹ️ If you are a parent considering this option, I hope it provides some encouragement and guidance when speaking to providers. ⭐️ As always, please do get in touch with suggestions. - 🤝 Follow me for insight on #EdTech, online schools and online learning. 📧 DM me any news, events, or annoucements. 👉 Click the 🔔 on my profile to get a notification of new posts. 🌍 Visit classfutures.com for monthly industry news and insight 🌻 Search for the Online Schools group on LinkedIn with 500+ members.

As Federal Dollars Vanish, Districts Weigh Which Edtech Tools to Drop My town’s #schooldistrict is caught in this same challenge. Its very hard for me to check my anger on this lack of planning. The day #COVID funds were released, was the day #schools, #administrators, #BOE and #educators knew when they would end. I take this lack of planning to highlight that school districts are NOT businesses, and may lack some, if not many, of the knowledge or processes that help many businesses manage change. My top five list of immediate ways to save money: Does every student really need a #chromebook? I have yet to hear or read a good explanation why K-3 students each need their own? Audit every single tech #subscription. If a district is a #Google Education node, why does it need #Zoom? Question your vendors - Ask them to justify the current business with the district. Ask them how they can save the school(s) money by consolidating business. Look for better pricing, or different vendors, especially on commodities Ask your community for support - I’m sure there are some parents who would be willing to offer their expertise, knowledge or resources to support the better use of their tax dollars. Look to your high school students - I’ll bet there are more than a few high schools that could repair tech equipment, could evaluate existing technology use, and train teachers on use of tech. And the school would be providing real-world experiences, if not volunteer or paid work, or even credits towards college. https://ow.ly/nVGL50TzE2B #innocation #technology #K12 #BOE #education #budget #planning #ESSER

Passionate about the development & wellbeing of young people. Childhood bereavement led to interest in mental health. Late-diagnosed autistic & SEND parent, learning about neurodiversity. Faith fuelled. Life is a 🧩
A helpful resource for those exploring online education. For parents considering this an option, yes, but importantly for schools & Local Authorities to do some homework & consider whether hybrid provision is something you could consider piloting in your school or area. There is such a great need for a both/and approach to education, both at school & from home (community centres, care homes, hybrid learning centres, such as the Springboard Project). My own daughter is in Year 8 & struggling immensely with school (& currently the thought of returning). Her mental health has been steadily declining. I am longing to be able to do more for her, to provide some respite in her week, where perhaps she could learn from home for one day a week to help her balance her energy levels - mental, physical & emotional. We need schools & Local Authorities to seriously engage in this area, or we are at risk of seeing more & more young people fall away from school, in to this sadly increasing category of Emotionally Based School Avoidance. It seems to me it is already an epidemic & is not set to get any better unless we start paying attention, thinking outside the box & trying new things; whilst being willing to get things wrong, to fail, to learn from mistakes, reflect & to keep trying anyway. See Dan Fitzpatrick’s recent post, in which he quotes Alex Hormozi: “If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate." In the same way we instill such a growth mindset in our young people, this is our opportunity to pave the way with innovation & risk & to demonstrate that failures can be stepping stones along the way to creating something greater. We have to be willing to give things a go! We need something better. Online education is one part of this greater vision, I believe. And if used in collaboration with traditional schools, as opposed to instead of, has the potential to make a huge difference in the lives of so many of our persistently absent (or at risk of), struggling young people. We push them to keep going in the name of resilience; but at what cost? Their mental health & wellbeing is ultimately so much more valuable than the numbers they read on a piece of paper at the end of Year 11. There is no reason why one need be sacrificed by the other. We need system-wide engagement. We need change. Thank you to the people who are constantly engaging with these issues, asking bold & provocative questions, trail blazing, taking risks, raising awareness, leading from a place of compassion as well as experience & research. Thank you 👏🏻 I have ‘met’ but a handful of you in this space & no doubt there are more but here are some great folk to check out (add your name in the comments if I’ve missed you!): Andrew Howard Kate Longworth Kirstin Coughtrie Sarah Sudea Dan Fitzpatrick Ben Whitaker Steven Hope Anthony Benedict Jo Symes Victoria Bagnall Jonathan Lloyd Jonathan Nicholls Alison Hesley Simon Lloyd James Harris

As we continue to modernize education, it's becoming increasingly clear that we need to address the outdated systems that are still in place. Michael Miller's 2020 article for Eduventures, "Do Student Information Systems Need a Tuneup?" highlights the urgent need for the modernization of Student Information Systems (SIS). And as I dive deeper into the conversation around the evolution of established EdTech, it's clear that SIS modernization is both timely and imperative. Let's continue to push for #EdTechEvolution and #DigitalTransformation in education, including the much-needed #SISModernization. #FutureOfEducation

Essay Fairy, Marketing & Strategy Consultant for Schools and HE Engagements in Overseas Education with over 8 years of college administration, interviews, and outreach experience
As an erstwhile IC, I'm someone deeply passionate about empowering schools, students, and educators. For a while now I have been quietly working with a private educational organization who have crafted a #PlatformAndApp that guides #Students, #Schools and #CareerCounselors through the maze of #CollegeApplications. This is a space to effortlessly discover, shortlist, and apply to courses and universities worldwide. From #PersonalizedRecommendations and a common app to #TestPreparation,#PsychometricAssesment #CMAP+, #UniversityVisits and #ExclusiveWorkshops – seamlessly integrated into one app. We're talking about 1,500+ universities and a whopping 80,000 courses – all at our fingertips. Now, here's where it gets even better for educators like you and me. I understand the challenges counselors face in staying updated on the ever-disruptive educational landscape. The struggle to create well-researched, updated college lists, deal with personal biases, and ensure that students keep their documents organized can be overwhelming. The burnout by the end of every cycle is real. This platform helps mitigate that. And speaking of making things better, I am on research detail for this platform. I am looking at #Schools and #ExperiencedSeniorSchoolCounselors to take it out for a spin. As much as I am confident about the platform, I'm happy to receive any feedback that might make it better. Let's #declutter shall we? No more extensive and difficult research for creating dream, target, and safety lists. No more updating multiple multiple Excel sheets with student progress, inevitably losing track and starting all over again. No more worrying about students forgetting to upload their documents, asking for LORs at the very last second, then panicking the weekend before deadlines. Here's hoping that this cycle not just be achievable but enjoyable. Looking forward to connecting with you.
