It's our duty to be trauma-informed, recognizing the origins of problematic behavior. Self-awareness and accountability pave the way for a strong, supportive framework. Triggers are trauma responses, not drama. We must acknowledge and respect the depth of trauma, never diminishing its impact. 🌟💪 #TraumaInformed #SelfAwareness #SupportiveFramework #RespectTrauma #HealingJourney #ForwardMovement #LiveAboveTheHype

I struggle with toxic positivity and even as I have been making a conscious effort to address my workplace trauma lately, I still have visceral reactions to toxic positivity. Toxic positivity is a hyper-positive attitude where we tend to silence so-called “negative emotions” with a continuous state of happiness and optimism, regardless of the situation. The problem with toxic positivity is that it leads to a state of denial or invalidation of valid and necessary emotions such as sadness, frustration, or anxiety, among others that, as humans, we cannot ignore or stop experiencing. Emotions that your neurodiverse colleagues need to be allowed to feel to effectively process situations and environmental stimuli. Toxic positivity may downplay the importance of therapeutic support and environmental adaptations. It is important to maintain a positive attitude but also to educate ourselves and understand that progress comes through discipline, persistence, preparation, and consistency. You could be increasing feelings of isolation in neurodivergent folks and invalidating experiences through this hyper-positive behavior. Thus making neurodivergent folks feel misunderstood. As a neurodivergent individual, I can say that we are not trying to be negative, instead we are processing our world differently than you. The more our “negative” emotions are invalidated, the more misunderstood a neurodivergent individual feels. In turn, this pushes us neurodivergent individuals to “mask” and attempt to hide our neurodivergence to fit into the roles we feel our colleagues want us to play.
When we can't acknowledge what happened to us, that pain doesn't have the chance to heal. Stress that isn't validated can turn into trauma. Toxic positivity tries to ignore that we experience pain. But effective emotional processing involves going through and acknowledging the pain before trying to move through it. #eq #emotionalintelligence #toxicpositivity

I read Stephanie Lemek's article from the perspective of a behavioralist. That is why I appreciate her connection between trauma-informed principles and a healthy workforce. After all, trauma can be a tough topic to bring up. But a shared definition of trauma and a common understanding is a great place to start. > The Wounded Workforce: How Trauma Impacts Organizations and How to Overcome It https://lnkd.in/ejSW9k-M

NEXT WEEK! Reflections on Working with Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse - LIVE event with Mel Ciavucco It’s often a subject of fascination (or of complete avoidance!) when I tell people I work with perpetrators of abuse. It’s a niche area to work in, with few perpetrator services available, so I’d like to share my reflections and insights from my time working in this field. I’ve worked mostly with men, in groups and on a 1:1 basis, delivering behaviour change programmes. I’ve always been drawn to working in these areas, though at first doubted I ever could, and am fascinated by why people do what they do. In this workshop I’ll be reflecting on my own experiences, the impact on me personally, how it has impacted my thinking on working with the “bad guys” and what we can take away to reflect on and learn about humanity, society and building a more compassionate world. This will be a personal informal talk for 45-minutes, with 15 minutes for Q&A at the end. Due to confidentiality, no specific cases, individuals or organisations will be named or discussed. You can join in LIVE or purchase the recording. Use the link below to choose. https://buff.ly/4cTPqEp #therapistsConnect #training4therapists #counselling

The thing is that if we don’t have and hold boundaries, we are more likely to give too much and that is one of the keys to compassion fatigue. Read more 👉 https://lttr.ai/AVPKU #CompassionFatigue #SmallBusinessOwner #SmallBusinessOwners
