Powering the Next Generation So there I was, waiting in line to pick up my daughter from school when I noticed the huge flat roof - with NO SOLAR PANELS on it! Six months later and I am in the initial stages of a project to save the school around £10,000 on their electricity bill and 5 tonnes of CO2 per year. The easy way would be to get some private investment through one of the many solar schemes, but this usually means far less benefit to the school, so the Backwell & Cleeve Community Energy Group of which I am a member, has volunteered to project manage it for free and raise as much of the money locally so that every penny saved can go back into supporting the current and future pupils. Somewhat optimistically, I have signed up for a mountain marathon in mid-Wales next month to raise a bit of cash to pay for the planning application and a roof survey. If you believe every school should be getting the benefits of cheap, low carbon renewable energy, please donate what you can. Or indeed, if you would like to offset some of your personal footprint (unofficially) more locally then chip in below - a flight is worth approximately £25 or a year's worth of modern living is about £250. p.s. this is just the start - if you can help us get this first project over the line, our aim is to help more schools do the same. p.p.s our kid's futures rely on us doing everything we can to reverse the damage we have done. Charities and community energy groups across England, Scotland and Wales can again apply for a grant from the Ofgem Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme. The Energy Redress Scheme has today opened its tenth funding round. There is £40 million available through four funding streams. #energynews #energyprice

DOE's new foundation for US energy transition U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has appointed the board of directors for its new agency-related foundation, the Foundation for Energy Security and Innovation (FESI). The FESI is a non-profit entity that will support the DOE in accelerating the commercialization of new and existing energy technologies by engaging with the private sector and philanthropic communities. The board members will set priorities for FESI, establish bylaws and governance structures, and actively fundraise for FESI activities and initiatives. Downing expands investment vehicle for UK charitable institutions with solar portfolio acquisition. Downing Sustainable Investment (DSI) has acquired a portfolio of c.2,900 domestic rooftop solar installations providing electricity to tenants of six housing associations in Yorkshire, the East Midlands and East Anglia. This is DSI’s second investment following its acquisition of the land and associated lease income related to a c.200MW operational onshore wind farm in the Scottish Highlands. Solarize the Triad is gaining some serious momentum, y'all ☀️ Since kicking off in July, this group purchasing campaign has made a big effort make solar more accessible and affordable for local residents, non-profits, and businesses.
