🙌 A great feature by ImpactAlpha of our #MissionInvest2024 plenary speaker Jahi Wise, which details how instrumental Wise was in orchestrating the $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which starts rolling out any day now. "Wise was an advisor to a newly elected President Joe Biden when ideas began to take shape for a national “green bank” to spur local lending for green energy retrofits, heat pumps, community solar and other green projects. The Inflation Reduction Act, passed two years ago next week, carved out $27 billion for such a “bank,” to be overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency." Read more: https://lnkd.in/e2x-q6yS

#renewables EPA Awards $20 Billion in Federal "Green Bank" Funding The Environmental Protection Agency announced recipients of $20 Bn in funding from its Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). The intent of the award is to set up a national Green Banking program through nonprofits and community lenders to provide initial funding to underdeveloped clean energy markets, to catalyze large scale financing from the private sector. This program follows the establishment of Green Banks in 17 states, and EPA's goal is to mobize $7 of private sector finance for every dollar invested by the government, so its $20 billion funding could generate almost $150 billion in private market financing. The recipients of the EPA awards are Climate United, receiving $7 Bn to develop projects in low-income disadvantaged communities, the Coalition for Green Capital, receiving $5 Bn for its member state and local green banks, and Power Forward, receiving $2 Bn to invest in housing electrification. The remaining funds will go to five nonprofit community hubs from the Clean Communities Investment Accelerator, which assists lenders in underserved communities in expanding into green lending.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced $20 billion in federal funding under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund for clean energy, transportation, and housing initiatives, focusing on uplifting low-income and disadvantaged communities nationwide. Eight community development banks and nonprofits will receive this funding for low-interest loans, guarantees, and investments in energy efficiency upgrades and other projects that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The White House initiative aims to attract $150B in clean energy investments, reduce carbon pollution by 40M metric tons annually through 2031, and allocate 70% of funds to low-income areas, 20% to rural areas, and over 5% to marginalized tribal communities. This effort represents a critical step towards addressing enduring inequities and providing essential capital to underserved communities. #EPA #GreenBank #CleanEnergy #InclusiveGrowth #SustainableFuture Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e8d-CVk5

Another good explainer about Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, quoting Jessica Buendia: “What needs to happen to get projects off the ground is blended capital.... Grants can serve one purpose, loans can serve another purpose, equity can serve another purpose....Most communities don’t have the expertise to do that kind of blended capital.." https://lnkd.in/eAnx2hBN

Congratulations to the newly announced recipients of $20b in grant awards from the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). Distributed through the National Clean Investment Fund and Clean Communities Investment Accelerator, the grants will establish a national clean financing network for clean energy and climate solutions across sectors, as well as a commitment of $14b toward low-income and disadvantaged, rural, and Tribal communities to ensure that they have access to the capital they need to participate in and benefit from a cleaner, more sustainable economy. Grantees include Climate United, Coalition for Green Capital, Power Forward Communities, Opportunity Finance Network, Inclusiv, Justice Climate Fund, Appalachian Community Capital and the Native CDFI Network, Inc. We applaud the dedicated efforts of all the selected recipients in their work to create a national climate bank. It represents an important step in the fight against the climate crisis and is another shining example of the impact of climate funding and finance. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e7MtgAFt

Great progress focused on the communities who need it most! The EPA has selected the recipients for $20 billion in grants, through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (under the Inflation Reduction Act). "The three selections under the $14 billion National Clean Investment Fund and five selections under the $6 billion Clean Communities Investment Accelerator will create a national clean financing network for clean energy and climate solutions across sectors, ensuring communities have access to the capital they need to participate in and benefit from a cleaner, more sustainable economy." We will see more than a lot of good done for underserved communities through these grants. Our teams have been preparing to support and are ready for these accelerated opportunities. #EPA #InflationReductionAct #CleanEnergyTransition #RenewableEnergyGrants

🌍 Last Thursday, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced eight groups that will receive $20 billion in funding from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF), the official name for the nation’s green bank program. Dedicating 70 percent of the capital, or more than $14 billion, toward low-income and disadvantaged communities, the GGRF is now the single largest non-tax investment to build a #CleanEnergy economy, while benefiting communities historically left behind. 🌱 To learn more: https://lnkd.in/e9z-bHji #EnergyTransition #energy #sustainability #decarbonization
