Senior Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; on detail to Office of Policy, U.S. Department of Energy
A new Berkeley Lab study shows that solar and wind hold growing promise to reduce consumer electricity bills. In 2022, solar generated $2.1 billion in net market value nationwide, while wind generated $100 million. Yet whether consumers directly benefit from this value is influenced by the contract and market structures under which these generators operate. Some purchasers may want to rethink their contracting practices to capture more of that market value. For full details of the analysis and report, “Grid Value and Cost of Utility-Scale Wind and Solar: Potential Implications for Customer Electricity Bills”, visit https://lnkd.in/gxiE64RM

New report from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) shows that of the 469 hybrid power plants in operation across the United States, 61% of these are solar+storage. The trend looks set to continue as 66 of the 80 new hybrid projects across 2023 were PV+storage. With interconnection queues persisting, the utility scale solar market has already effectively transitioned into a solar plus storage market, with almost all new projects featuring hybrid systems. The residential PV market is following suit with 60% storage attachment rate. #renewablesnews #lumini https://lnkd.in/eXU5i8_w

#Cleanenergy sources will set new #records through 2025. : Global #EnergyTransition is set to achieve a significant #milestone by 2025, with total #renewablegeneration poised to overtake #coal-fired #electricity output. The share of #renewables in #globalelectricitysupply rose to 30% in 2023 and is projected to climb further to #35% in 2025. Electricity Mid-Year Update of International Energy Agency (IEA) reveals that ; in 2024 and 2025, the world’s #electricitydemand is set to #grow at the fastest pace since its post-Covid rebound. Despite the sharp rise in #electricity use, #solarPV alone is expected to meet roughly half of the growth in global #electricitydemand to 2025. Together with #wind power generation, it will make up almost #75% of the increase. #RenewableEnergy #Solar Blue Energy Mühendislik #Hydropower #Wind #CleanEnergy
Our Electricity Mid-Year Update is out! ⚡️ It shows global electricity use is set to rise strongly this year & next, reflecting its expanding role in energy systems worldwide And solar PV alone is on track to meet half of demand growth through 2025 ➡️ https://iea.li/4bXHdxu

The Southeast can claim about 22 GW of solar as of 2023 ☀️ That's enough to power 3.8 million US homes! Better yet? The region's solar capacity is expected to nearly double to almost 44 GW by 2027. Yet with utilities across the region forecasting significant increased demand for power for the first time in over a decade, opportunities to add more solar to the grid abound. To learn more about how to Southeast is shining, check out our "Solar in the Southeast" report: bit.ly/SACESolarReport24LP

Something we commonly get asked when speaking to our customers is 'should I be investing in a solar battery?' 🔋☀️ Our answer is 'YES'! Investing in a solar battery lets you save on electricity costs by storing excess solar energy for use during peak evening hours when prices are highest. It also provides reliable backup power during grid outages and enhances property value, making it a wise investment for savings, reliability, and property appeal. Have more burning questions about solar and battery? Check out our FAQ series with our Director David Howie 🙋📲 https://lnkd.in/gQCcasmp #solarbattery #thinkrenewable #savewithsolar
