As I reflect today, 9/12, on the anniversary of 9/11 this year, I couldn’t help but notice a steep drop in how it was remembered and discussed compared to years past. This shift troubles me because I believe it's essential that we don’t forget or trivialize such a tragic moment in history. Lives are precious, and we're all connected in this vast network of humanity, each of us striving to build community, foster connections, and improve the lives of those around us. What stands out even more vividly in my mind is not just the tragedy of 9/11 itself, but how on 9/12 we all came together. In the face of immense grief and shock, there was a sense of unity, compassion, and shared strength. We saw that when we stand together, we are capable of creating hope out of darkness. That sense of connection and humanity is something we need every day—not just after a disaster—to truly strengthen our bonds and build a better future for all. In thinking about this, I’ve also been working on keeping in better touch with my professional connections here on LinkedIn. LinkedIn often showcases mostly good news, but we all know life isn’t that simple. Everyone has bad days, but they often go unseen. I think it’s important to support each other beyond just job opportunities, offering a deeper connection and sense of community that reflects the kind of support we saw on 9/12. When we do this, we can help each other grow in ways that are truly unimaginable. Photo Credit: photographybyjrmills

We know we’re going to die, we just don’t know when. I’m so grateful to the awesome Lisa Rothstein, Brand Storyteller’s for helping me bring a small dose of humor to this topic. Avoiding the unavoidable doesn’t make it go away, it just makes it harder for those left behind. When you create a 100 year vision for your family’s future, you”ll immediately notice you won’t be there. When you can get past the fear of dying you open a new world of planning that enables you to impact unborn generations. By adding a Family Transition Plan to your estate planning efforts, you remove 97% of the risk of inheritance failure and improve the odds that your great grandchildren will know your name and celebrate your life.

Every conversation, every relationship we build, every action we take, fuels our sexual violence prevention movement, a movement no administration can take from us. The work you (and other preventionists) do every day is a powerful act of resistance against hate. The communities you’ve built—rooted in love, belonging, connection, and healing—are the heart of that resistance and the strength we need not only to survive the next four years but to build powerful coalitions, expand our movements, and design new strategies to meet the needs of our communities. Now is the time to get creative, to reach out to each other, and show the world what’s possible when we rise up, share resources, and organize together.
What a tough week it’s been. We know many of you are on the frontlines, supporting your students or community members, while also carrying the weight of your own emotions. You deserve support and care, too 💙. We are sending so much love and warmth to you. We are grateful folks have you as a resource, providing moments of connection and community spaces full of love and compassion. As we grieved this past week, we were reminded, where there is oppression, there is resistance. Community has been and always will be, our greatest strength, the path towards change, and the building blocks to a better world. We are honored to be in this community with you. You keep us going and fill us with so much hope. We are eager to see the creativity, the movement building, and the individual and collective actions we all take to meet this moment. To make clear that we will not tolerate harm and the targeting of our communities. That we will be there for one another and be a lifeline for those who need it most. That we will listen to, believe and support survivors. And importantly, that we will not stop dreaming. We will continue to put in the work to create a more consent-centered world and, to one day, be the country our communities deserve.

Thankful & Transformation Thursday: Family & Friend Appreciation Day (F-FAD) 🌟✨ Today, I’m reflecting on Family & Friend Appreciation Day (F-FAD)—a practice rooted in gratitude and connection, honoring the people who bring love, care, and community into our lives. This day is also an invitation to embrace the royalty of the reframe: to hold space for both the truth of history and the possibility for transformation. We cannot ignore the genocide and stolen lands that mark this time of year in the so-called United States of America—acknowledging these truths is essential to justice and healing. Yet, in the same breath, we can choose to reframe and create traditions that honor connection, appreciation, and care for one another in ways that heal, not harm. F-FAD is a way to shift from the colonizer narrative into one of gratitude for the relationships we nurture and the communities we grow. It’s about uplifting those we hold dear while holding space for the past and actively contributing to a more equitable, inclusive future. ✨ How are you choosing to honor your relationships today? Whether it’s a heartfelt message, a shared meal, or simply a moment of reflection, let’s celebrate the bonds that sustain us while reimagining what this time of year can mean for all. Wishing you a day filled with connection, gratitude, and love. ❤️ #ThankfulThursday #TransformationThursday #FamilyAndFriendAppreciationDay #HeartCenteredLiving #RoyaltyOfTheReframe

🕊️ Remembering September 11, 2001 🕊️ Today marks a somber anniversary of a day that forever changed our world. 23 years ago, the events of September 11th shook New York City and our entire nation to its core. It's a day that reminds us of the fragility of life, the strength of unity, and the resilience of the human spirit. For those of us who were there or felt the impact in our own way, it’s more than just a day in history—it’s personal. Many of us still remember the fear, confusion, and heartbreak that swept over us all. But amidst the darkness, we also remember the overwhelming sense of community that rose up. Strangers became family, and heroes emerged in ways we could never have imagined. As we take a moment to honor those we lost and the bravery of those who stepped up, let’s also remember the importance of unity, compassion, and kindness in our daily lives. Happy St. Nicholas Day to everyone—children and adults alike! St. Nicholas Day, celebrated on December 6th, honors the legacy of St. Nicholas of Myra, a man known for his generosity, compassion, and selfless deeds. He devoted his life to helping those in need, becoming a symbol of kindness and the spirit of giving. This tradition reminds us of the importance of not only thinking of others but acting on that thought. Today, many children wake up to small surprises in their shoes—candies, nuts, or gifts—delighting in the magic of kindness. But this day isn’t just about celebrating children; it’s a call to all of us, as adults, to embrace the values of empathy and generosity that St. Nicholas represents. In a world that often tests our patience and kindness, let’s take a moment to reflect: • How can we extend a little more compassion to those around us? • How can we show that we are better humans than we often reveal in our busy, challenging lives? St. Nicholas teaches us that small acts of kindness can have a big impact. Whether it’s offering a kind word, lending a helping hand, or simply being present for someone who needs support, let’s channel the spirit of St. Nicholas not just today, but every day. To all children—never stop dreaming, and to all adults—never stop striving to be the better version of yourselves. Here’s to a day, and a life, filled with kindness, generosity, and love. #StNicholasDay #KindnessMatters #CompassionInAction
