To mitigate the adverse effects of the carbon pollution is costly. From the costs of decarbonization technology transition, through agricultural damage and flood protection, to the introduction of new agricultural cultures and water retention, all the way to the rapidly increasing costs of social crisis management, or even the cost of managing the increasingly hot topic of migration. In his latest blog post, urbaniqe CEO Levente Tóth discusses how much of these so called societal cost of carbon emissions we currently do not pay and why does it matter. 💡 Can we use #floatingwetlands to clean up wastewater and reduce greenhouse gas emissions? 🎙️ Catch Dr Lukas Schuster on ABC radio discuss our findings... Floating wetlands are buoyant structures that support native wetland plants. These plants have long roots, which provide a large surface area for #microbes to grow on and absorb nutrients from the water column. By reducing high nutrient levels, these plants can naturally filter the wastewater, potentially lowering emissions. Our research, in collaboration with Westernport Water and Clarity Aquatic, could present a promising #naturebasedsolution for sustainable wastewater treatment to combat climate change, while also providing incentives to adopt these practices. Water is essential for life, serving as the foundation for ecosystems, agriculture, and human existence. Its unique properties support various functions, from hydration to transportation. However, water scarcity, pollution, and unequal distribution pose significant challenges globally. Sustainable management and conservation efforts are crucial to ensuring equitable access to clean water and safeguarding the health of our planet.Water is the essence of life, a fundamental element crucial for the existence of all living organisms on Earth. Its remarkable properties enable it to sustain life in various forms, from nourishing plants and animals to shaping landscapes through erosion. Moreover, water plays a vital role in regulating Earth's climate and supporting ecosystems. However, its availability is not unlimited, with many regions facing water scarcity due to overconsumption, pollution, and climate change. Thus, it's imperative to conserve and manage water resources wisely to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

If something is simply too costly should the government agency simply not report it? Jo Bradley you certainly haven't wasted your time drawing much needed attention to this diabolical issue! What would it mean for our roads and cities - would roads need a toll so we can put in better systems to clean water at source? Who else is talking about this? Environment Agency #UrbanPollution #Water #Pollution #EnvironmentAgency
The Environment Agency published their Business Plan for 2024/25 today. In the section on water there is not a single mention of urban pollution or pollution from highway runoff. Frankly, I despair. You can read the report on this link, but if I were you, I wouldn't waste your time. I wish that I hadn't wasted mine. https://lnkd.in/e_Aq8kpf

Air pollution is a significant global issue with profound impacts on human health, ecosystems, and climate. It arises mainly from industrial emissions, vehicular exhaust, agricultural practices, and residential sources. Effective control measures include stricter emission standards, promoting renewable energy, improving public transportation, and enhancing green spaces. Long-term solutions require international cooperation, technological innovation, and public awareness to mitigate its harmful effects and ensure cleaner air for all.
