🔋 Faster Electricity Growth in Alberta! The Alberta Electric System Operator (#AESO) forecasts a 1.2% annual increase in electricity demand over the next 20 years, driven by a strong economy, population growth, and increased electrification in transportation and buildings. See recent AESO the 2024 Long-term Outlook as of May 15, 2024, here https://loom.ly/rl3-pQw Calgary's population increased by a staggering 6%, and Edmonton's by 4.2%, according to the latest StatsCan estimates over just 12 months. ⚡ Key Highlights: ✔️AESO's base case scenario projects sufficient generation to meet demand until 2050. ✔️Electric vehicles and renewable energy are expected to play major roles in future growth. ✔️Technological advancements like carbon capture and small modular reactors will help address escalating load demands. With a robust strategy and careful planning, Alberta is well-positioned to meet its electricity needs and support a sustainable future. #EnergyGrowth #AlbertaElectricity #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #FutureReady #EnergyDemand

Insightful discussion regarding the challenges and recognized opportunities of BC, Sk and NS. Though resources may differ a bit, it was interesting to hear how different provinces are adressing net-zero 2035, and the universal challenges regardless of geographic location. The most telling part of the discussion was attitude of the province to the challenge of net-zero. I think NS will be a province to watch with it's transition developments. One note, net-zero for 2035 rather than 2050 is to incent steps toward change now rather than "waiting" and allowing governments to "kick the can" for another government or cabinet to tackle. The ultimate goal IS 2050, and without a little urgency, it would be unlikely that we could meet or get close to the net-zero goals. #etc2023
What a great Day 2 Plenary at Electricity Transformation Canada: “Today’s Utilities and ISOs at the Forefront of the Electricity Transition.” Canada’s electricity utilities and system operators talked about systemic solutions for incorporating renewables and meeting future needs for electricity generation, as well as interconnections and more. Thank you to Mark Sidebottom (Nova Scotia Power), Troy King (SaskPower), Diana Stephenson (BC Hydro), moderator Emma Graney (The Globe and Mail) and Evan Wilson (CanREA). #RenewableEnergy #ETC2023

Massachusetts is advancing legislation aimed at phasing out natural gas, with multiple bills proposing to stop the expansion of natural gas services, ban new pipelines, and allow gas utilities to offer alternatives like geothermal energy. This legislative push builds on a state order to transition away from natural gas in line with Massachusetts' goal to become carbon-neutral by 2050. The proposals include prohibiting natural gas expansion into municipalities without existing service and redefining gas companies to include providers of thermal energy, facilitating the shift to home electrification and geothermal systems. #Massachusetts #NaturalGas #ClimateAction #GeothermalEnergy #Legislation Link to the full story below: https://bit.ly/4bpDx7A ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neeeco increases energy savings by making your homes energy-efficient. 🏠 ✅

New article from The Financial Times this week: to avoid a UK gas comeback, we need more energy storage. This includes details on our plans at Cruachan Power Station to build a new 600MW underground pumped storage hydro plant. 💡 The article details how Britain currently relies heavily on gas-fired power stations to fill supply gaps. But long duration energy storage solutions, like at Cruachan Power Station, offer a solution - storing energy to generate power when the country needs it, strengthening energy security and powering the UK to #NetZero. 🌍 ⚡ 🗞️ Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eKvATsmC

Energy insecurity around the world underscores the need for policymakers from both parties to embrace clean and affordable energy here at home. Our nation can meet our growing energy needs, lower CO2 emissions, and provide energy security to our global allies through the production of clean natural gas. “With bipartisan support and a recognition that natural gas is a critical part of a clean energy solution, the U.S. can chart a course that ensures a legacy of sustainable energy for future generations,” writes T. Lane Wilson, senior vice president and general counsel at Williams. Read more from T. Lane Wilson on why #natgas is the key to a clean, reliable, and affordable energy future:
