Here are some interesting facts about Canada Day: 1. **Birth of a Nation**: Canada Day marks the anniversary of the confederation of Canada on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act (now known as the Constitution Act) came into effect, uniting the colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada (which became Ontario and Quebec). 2. **Originally Called Dominion Day**: The holiday was originally called Dominion Day until it was renamed Canada Day in 1982, following the passage of the Canada Act which gave Canada full sovereignty from the United Kingdom. 3. **Nationwide Celebrations**: Canada Day is celebrated with various events and activities across the country, including parades, fireworks, concerts, and barbecues. The largest celebration is held in Ottawa, the capital city, featuring performances, cultural displays, and a massive fireworks show.

Today marks two years since I arrived in Malta on 17 June 2022, having never been here before. No country is perfect, but some can be really different, even completely opposite, to all your past experiences. Unlike Italy, Malta has a vibrant expat community, with people from all around the world, coming here to study English, or to work, and then trying to remain, at least for a while. When meeting someone, you will probably ask - or be asked - some of the following questions: "What's your name?", "How do you spell it?" "Where are you from?" "Are you here on holiday, or for work?" "How long have you been living in Malta?" Argentinians, Brazilians, Colombians, Ecuadorians, Peruvians, Mexicans, French, Spanish, Italians, Germans, Czechs, Polish, Hungarians, Turkish, Serbians, Estonians, Ukranians, Russians, Chinese, Japanese, Philippinos, Mauritans, Indians, Iranians, Libaneses. These are just a small sample of the people I have met so far, and got to be friends with. This gives you an idea of the immense cultural richness that this country has to offer, and that represents one of the main reasons people remain. #malta #anotherlife #expatcommunity #expatlife

Nicaragua is just an example. Why do you think there’s a proposed tax coming for wanting to migrate from Canada? Those who want to make a better life for themselves could face thousands in taxation for wanting to leave the country. That speaks volumes in regards to people wanting to leave Canada in general. There’s always been a snowbird migration and others seeking a different lifestyle and always will be. But now, the migration is in search of a better life period. A more manageable cost of living seems to be outweighing a potential dangerous situation in some cases. Mr. Polievre, your catch phrases and campaign slogans are great. How will you answer the tough questions you ask in parliament? What is your plan to “bring it home” and “axing the tax” to get Canada out of the 6’ hole the liberal party has already dug?
MP for Carleton, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, and running to be Prime Minister of Canada
People used to flee Nicaragua to come to Canada. After 9 years of Trudeau, Canadians flee to go there. Wow.

What did Canada Day used to be known as pre-1983? Today, July 1st, marks the anniversary of Canada’s confederation in 1867 when three British colonies - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada (later to become Ontario and Quebec) - united to form the 'Dominion of Canada'. Originally called ‘Dominion Day’, the holiday was renamed as ‘Canada Day’ in 1982, seen as a modern shift away from colonial-era terminology. The interesting difference between a ‘colony’ and a ‘dominion’ is that the latter has attained a degree of self-governance whilst remaining loyal - in this instance - to the ethos of the British family, or Crown. Functions of the Crown in the Dominions are not undertaken personally by the sovereign but by a governor-general, appointed by the sovereign (Oxford University Press). Mary Simon is the current governor general of Canada, and is the first Indigenous appointment to the role. She became the 30th governor general of Canada on 26th July 2021. CELEBRATIONS As with many celebrations around the world, fireworks play a central role, with people gathering in parks and waterfronts across the country to see the night skies light up. Many Canadians dress in the national colours of red & white, attending parties and cultural activities, which may include historical reenactments (Halifax) or Indigenous ceremonies (Winnipeg). According to website ‘Ramblyn Jazz’, the day brings mixed feelings amongst Indigenous cultures, due to historical injustices. Though Indigenous communities frequently do use the day to showcase their cultures and contributions to Canadian life. In Montreal, where I spent two-years, this year’s main event will be a family focussed affair in the Old Port of Montreal, which is a fun and vibrant part of the city, full of bars, restaurants and a zip wire for those feeling more daring. In addition to the main celebrations at the Old Port, various Montreal neighbourhoods organise their own Canada Day events. For example, Pierrefonds-Roxboro on the opposite shore of Montreal island, hosts a parade, amusement park, and fireworks. Every Destination Has A Story… #canadaday #exploretheworld #storytelling #travel

The key reason for starting my post corporate-world journey in Northeast India was that most Indians knew so little about the region, and many of those who had some familiarity carried wrong or outdated perception of the land. Anvayins ('un-wines' for those who still struggle to pronounce the name), a Sanskrit word that means belonging to a family was born to make a token contribution to familiarize people with our Northeastern family. So it was a sense of deja-vu when we added Central Asia to our portfolio, another relatively lesser known region. The suffix 'stan' attached to the five countries comprising it generated its own connotation. Just as in the case of Northeast India where many could not name the states comprising it or their capitals, many aren't familiar with the five countries that form Central Asia. Within Northeast India, each state has something unique to offer - the archeological wonders of Tripura, historical richness of Manipur and Nagaland for their association with the Second World War, natural formations of Meghalaya, solitude of Arunachal Pradesh with a population density of 17 (India is 430+), each country in Central Asia has its own highlight - the art, architecture and handicraft of Uzbekistan, lakes and mountain passes of Kyrgyzstan, nature trails and historical landmarks of Kazakhstan with a population density of 6! And for me personally, the most satisfying thread common to both the regions is that there is still so much more to discover and share. What more can an explorer ask for! https://lnkd.in/dnGeUJWK #anvayins #kazakhstan #centralasia
When I thought of visiting Central Asia, the first country that came to mind was Kazakhstan. The largest country of Central Asia and also the 9th largest in the world, it has one of the lowest population density in the world - 6 (India is about 481). This vast country is renowned for its scenic beauty of steppe grasslands, majestic mountains, picturesque lakes, intriguing canyons and much more. Kazakhstan also has a rich history as it is inhabited by over one hundred and thirty different ethnic groups from various countries of the former Soviet Union. What more! Kazakhstan is easily accessible from India - Almaty is just about 3hrs away from Delhi and doesn't require a visa to enter the country for a stay upto 14 days. So why the wait?
