I'm also of the view that the point of entry must be companies that have a long history in investing in the respective country. My take away on this story is that there is thin line between looking after the interet of the current players, this also may be seen as gate keeping and allowing for the status core to remain. On the other hand opening up to invite new players creates a platform for new investments and markets. The biggest question would be how does one to draw the line between rewarding/appreciating the efforts of those who have always believed in the development of the country by investing at a time not popular to do so and those whom are only realizing now the opportunity to invest in the country.
South Africa's logistics utility, APM Terminals, has filed an opposing affidavit against AP Moller-Maersk's bid to interdict the privatisation process at the Port of Durban of International Container Terminal Services Incorporated (ICTSI). The move follows APMT's submission to the Durban High Court, claiming it was not given a fair opportunity against the Filipino concession company's bid. APMT claims the bidding process began in 2022 but only heard about ICTSI's successful bid in July. If successful, it could disrupt the privatisation process at the congested port. Director of Permanent Secretariat of Transport Community Treaty | International Relations, Government Relations | Transport & Connectivity
Fruitful discussions on the Safe and Sustainable Transport Programme (SSTP) in London today. The SSTP is a joint endeavour of The World Bank, European Commission WBIF - Western Balkans Investment Framework and Transport Community that aims to spur long-term growth in the region, and promote a greener, safer, and more resilient transport network. During the first SSTP Steering Group Meeting, I highlighted the progress on the Green Lanes and benefits of reduced border waiting times, enhanced trade, and seamless transport flows between the #WesternBalkans and the EU. Most notably, I underlined the strategic directions, capacity building, and continued cooperation to ensure the smooth functioning of supply chains, boost trade, and attract investors to the region. The initiative has already reduced border waiting times significantly and is set to expand further with new MoUs and a comprehensive roadmap recently endorsed by the leader of the region. We are looking forward to see the results of our enhanced cooperation in the upcoming period. We are #TogetherConnected. Learn more about the meeting here 👇 https://lnkd.in/dUN3k6Tr

It was an honour to assist the The Competition Commission South Africa and the dti (Department of Trade and Industry: Republic of South Africa) in the Industry Engagement for the upcoming Block Exemption for our Logistics Sector - an enabling move by the Government. With Structural Reform, collaboration is needed amongst industry players - especially Freight Owners - in developing the critical mass to unlock efficiencies in our rail sector - a practical example of this is if Manufacturer/Farmer/Miner 1 requires a rail service but only has enough freight demand for 50% utilisation of a locomotive and a network slot, through the collaboration with other industry players (Manuf. 2, 3, 4, ... etc) they can push the service toward efficiency with their collaboration - this is true for both infrastructure and operations. This work was done alongside B4SA, ARIA and the NLCC.

Really interesting developments from PSA on the middle corridor and connecting Asia and Europe.
📢 Exciting developments are happening at KPMC Ltd., a joint venture between PSA International and Kazakhstan Railways National Company (KTZ), which manages Kazakhstan’s main railway network. 🚉 Established last year, #KPMC focuses on promoting the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (#TITR), a key trade link connecting Southeast Asia and China to Europe through Kazakhstan. We’re proud to explore new opportunities along this corridor, such as transporting hazardous goods ⚠️ and enhancing global trade flows, both westbound (from Asia to Europe) and eastbound (from Europe to China and Central Asia). #PSA is also looking at the growing importance of the Middle Corridor, as an alternative and faster trade route between China and Europe. As shareholder in DGT - Duisburg Gateway Terminal Terminal (DGT), Europe’s largest and greenest inland terminal, the teams engaged in a strategic workshop session to explore the role of #DGT in this evolving route by connecting Duisburg with Türkiye. KPMC and PSA are paving the way for the future of global trade, alongside! 🌍 #AlwaysAlongside #PSAEuroMed #TeamPSA
