Have you ever been totally blown away after seeing a great concert? The sound, lights, and special effects are all top-of-mind, but stick around a bit after the show and you’ll see the roadies go to work. This is the team behind the scenes who make those amazing performances possible. In a way, MKE Iron Erectors, Inc. ironworkers are like roadies: their work goes unnoticed behind the scenes and it is rarely thought about. Yet, from the iron backbone of skyscrapers, to working with Walbec Group to build a beautiful civic improvement like the Vel R. Phillips Plaza in downtown Milwaukee, ironworkers make great architecture performances come to life. #milwaukee #ironworkers #construction #concrete

The bricks in the iconic Baltimore row homes aren't just there for looks, they play a key role in regulating temperature! Bricks, made from clay, have high thermal mass, absorbing and storing heat from the sun to keep homes warm in winter and cool in summer. Meanwhile, metal, with low thermal mass, can't hold onto that heat as effectively. As we create the environments that we live, work, and play in, It's important to consider how the multiple elements, such as the materials we build with, and the systems of a building, integrate with each other to form a sustainable whole.

Looking back at the aerial view of BOSTON, a four-storey apartment building finished a few years back. It is exciting to see the process of constructing such a monumental building from start to finish. Wow, these baffles really read as an exposed deck (to my eye) which we've all seen before but with a touch of color and MEGA acoustic impact!! Beauty & Function. #acoustics #acousticdesign #ceilingdesign #ceilings #interiordesign #baffles #soundabsorption #functionaldesign
Midnight colored #baffles arranged in a grid from Acoufelt create a dramatic look! We love how this Gensler project in Dallas, TX used this deep rich tone to define a common area, while creating quiet #acoustic charm and a calm inviting space. To learn more about Acoufelt in North Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana, reach out to Michelle with #Kallamanllc to learn more. This remarkable panorama of Lower Manhattan, captured in January 1876, is one of the earliest photographs of New York at the dawn of its high-rise history. Taken from a high vantage – the eastern tower of the Brooklyn Bridge, under construction and as yet without connecting cables – the perspective reveals a dense urban fabric of 4- and 5-story buildings, sprawling from the harbor to Pike Slip (now under the Manhattan Bridge). The city is so uniformly low-rise that one sees clear across the island to the Hudson River and New Jersey. The only structures that interrupt the horizontal mass are ship masts, church spires, and the clock tower and cupola of the city’s first skyscrapers, both completed in 1875, the Tribune and Western Union buildings. All-masonry structures, rising to 260 and 230 feet respectively, they were the first commercial buildings in the city of ten stories and among the first office buildings to employ the elevator, although those early machines were powered by steam engines.

This is a tragic case that could have been avoided. Cultural safety and security and the management of contractors with hot works is so often a systematic failure when renovating iconic facilities. The need to heighten contractor management in these buildings is critical. Systems can work, if everyone follows a systematic risk based approach to safety in any environment.
Devastating scenes in #Copenhagen as its oldest building the Old Stock Exchange catches fire. The #fire engulfed the building's spire which collapsed soon after in scenes reminiscent of the blaze at Paris' Notre-Dame cathedral in 2019. Images circulating online show people, including members of the public, carrying pieces of #art out of the building with some #paintings dating back to 1625. #Denmark's #culture #minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt said it was "touching" to see how passersby helped emergency workers "save art treasures and iconic images from the burning building". What can you find on Wapping High Street that you cannot anywhere else? The biggest intake for me is the seclusion from all the noise but how can you have this being so close to all the chaos? It’s like a supermassive soundproof wall has been placed between Wapping and the city. Yet it’s less than 2 miles away from Monument. And some buildings are pretty unique like this one with its roginal cranes 🏗️ and wood beams. #londonproperty #realestate #cityoflondon #primeproperty #luxuryrealestate #knightfrank

Adding small-scale cool to multi-block developments? We can learn a lot from the small-scale, historic places we love—their scale, texture, rhythm, and setting. And we can infuse their human-centric feel in today’s developments. https://stantec.co/44gpcrC

Oh dang, Edwin Slipek telling it like it is re: some of the issues holding #downtown City of Richmond, Virginia back. Y'all, it's not about the next big, shiny project. It is about #corridors, filling #vacantbuildings, and addressing the #blight and #disinvestment that currently overwhelms the area. Kudos to the intrepid #smallbusinessowners who are investing, the #developers who are #developing #residential and #commercial spaces, and to the #downtownresidents who add to the #vibrancy of the area.

Geranium is excited to share the latest progress on our Allegro community, stretching from Yonge Street to Bathurst Street in Downtown Aurora. Most homes in Phase 2 are now complete and families are enjoying their new spaces. In Phase 3, masonry crews are making excellent progress on bricking exteriors. Plus, the construction of sold homes in Phase 4 is set to begin soon once building permits are available this summer. Check out our latest blog post for more updates on Phases 2-4: https://bit.ly/4bmRMtz #constructionupdate #allegroaurora #howwebuild #geraniumblog
