The 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆, observed on October 17, 2024, focuses on the theme ❝𝘌𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵: 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵, 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴.❞ This theme emphasizes the need to address both the visible and hidden dimensions of poverty, especially how marginalized individuals experience social stigma and institutional discrimination, making it harder for them to access essential services like healthcare, education, and housing. On this day, the call is not just to recognize the hardships faced by the poor but to actively involve them in creating solutions, fostering societies that leave no one behind. #EndPoverty #PovertyEradication #SocialJustice #GlobalGoals #HumanRights #Equality

Taking action on the underlying reasons for separation is key to ending institutionalization of children. The crucial step starts with tackling the root causes. This begins by shifting our focus and resources towards combating poverty within families, eliminating stigma and discrimination against children with disabilities in communities, and putting an end to violence and mistreatment, along with other influencing factors. The faith sector can play and is playing a crucial role in this transformation.

At Beryl Women Inc., we recognize that poverty and financial hardship are often the harsh realities faced by women and children escaping domestic violence. As we observe Anti-Poverty Week, it’s crucial to shed light on how these intertwined issues affect lives and communities. 🔹 Many survivors find themselves in precarious financial situations after leaving abusive relationships, struggling with housing insecurity, lack of employment, and access to essential services. 🔹 Financial independence is key to breaking the cycle of violence. It’s vital that we advocate for sustainable support systems that empower survivors to rebuild their lives. Join us this week as we share stories, resources, and solutions aimed at addressing the financial barriers that so many face. Together, we can create a future where all women and children live free from violence and have the opportunity to thrive. #AntiPovertyWeek #BerylWomenInc #EndDomesticViolence #EmpowerSurvivors #FinancialIndependence

In this post, we unpack how existing inequalities are magnified by conflict, as infrastructure and social relations are weakened – 2/8 in our VAWG in Conflict series. Conflict and displacement often leave women and girls, LGBTQIA+ people, people with disabilities, and other marginalised populations at a higher risk of trafficking, human rights abuses, intimate partner violence, forced and child marriage, and limited access to essential services. But there is also an opportunity for transformation. Groups and individuals who have been marginalised and oppressed are not merely victims and recipients of aid. They are resilient agents of change. They know first-hand what their communities need. When they are included in, and lead, decision-making and reconstruction efforts we can build back better – in a way that does not reinforce unequal systems and structures but dismantles them. A feminist future of peace is possible. At EQI, we work every day to dismantle existing inequalities. And so can you in your own spheres of influence. Our liberation is interconnected, necessary and possible. It will take all of us. Swipe right to learn more. Emma Fulu (she/her)
