While high school students from Memphis Shelby County Schools were on summer break, #MLGW offered some of them an opportunity to participate in the first-ever Automotive Boot Camp. From June 3 to June 21, students from Cordova, Craigmont and Kingsbury high schools participated in the boot camp. During the boot camp the students obtained hands-on experience and learned about vehicle repair from MLGW mechanics. https://lnkd.in/e3tBRjqU

Is the driving test the big problem in terms of teaching people to drive and would we be better without it and a new approach to assessing people before they can drive on their own? A debate recently at an IMTD meeting when talking about teaching people to drive considered the point that the driving test was the biggest stumbling block to people learning to be drivers as the whole process was test centric and what get tested is what gets taught and yet it is not the skills which are lacking but the application of those skills and the knowledge and understanding which surrounds them. Whilst the UK test is highly regarded throughout the world it is focussed on being a fault finding exercise of basically the mechanical skills of manoeuvring and observation and lacks any assessment of driving on rural roads, in the dark or with passengers in the car and yet that is where our problems arise with newly qualified drivers.

One of the best benefits of Street Survival? You understand exactly what your car can and can't do in a safe controlled environment. Ex. When I was driving my mom's old Alero, you could swerve around 1 cone but not 2. Right Left Right 👍 Left Right Left 👍 Trying to go left one more time: no good and you're in the grass wondering what happened. The last place you want to find that out is on the road trying to dodge a squirrel and a car. Highly recommend Street Survival for new/teen drivers.
