Following a 9 % raise to the price of ordering a passport online in February 2023, the UK is now raising the price another 7% to £88.50. Officials claim that this rise will help improve services, not increase profit. The cost of children's passports is set to rise as well. The price had not risen in five years before the rise last year. The cost reflects the increase in passport production but also puts the UK passports among the priciest in Europe, the priciest being Switzerland's at £122. Although the prices have risen, the quality has not. If anything, it has gotten worse, with reports of the gold embossing rubbing off quickly. However, it's important to remember that passports last for ten years, making the price easier to swallow when it is spread out over that time. The cost of renewing an adult passport online rises to £88.50 on Thursday, with the travel document now 17% more expensive than at the start of 2023. Children’s passports will also cost more, going up from £53.50 to £57.50. Thursday’s 7% increase — twice the current rate of inflation — follows a 9% in February last year, when the document cost only £75.50
