Celebrating International Women’s Day: A Tribute to Alison Parr On International Women’s Day, I want to express my gratitude to one of my earliest female leaders and mentors, Alison Parr. Ali’s impact on my professional journey has been profound, and her leadership style left an indelible mark. What Ali Taught Me  Guidance Beyond Tasks: Ali went beyond mere task delegation. She taught me not only what needed to be done but, more importantly, how it should be done. Her emphasis on quality, ethics, and collaboration shaped my approach to work. Strength with Respect: Ali exemplified strength in leadership. She was assertive, yet always respectful. Her ability to navigate challenges while maintaining empathy for others was inspiring. Positive Challenges: Ali challenged me to stretch my limits. Her constructive feedback pushed me to grow, and I learned that discomfort often leads to growth. Empathy Matters: Ali’s empathy toward colleagues fostered a supportive work environment. She understood that success is collective, not individual. During the formative years of my career, Ali’s mentorship provided a solid foundation. Her wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering belief in my potential fuelled my ambition. Ali, if you’re reading this, know that your legacy lives on. May your well-deserved retirement be filled with joy, relaxation, and new adventures. Women who Inspire: "My Mother” and the three Cs of Leadership – Calmness, Compassion and Commitment In honour of International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate the women who inspire me. Last year, I wrote about Athina Kanioura, a powerful figure in the corporate world. We discussed the three Cs of leadership: Competence, Confidence, and Connectedness. This year, I want to discuss another woman who inspired me—my mother. While my mother is not a CEO or a high-powered executive, she is a real star in our lives. She embodies the three Cs of leadership: Calmness, Compassion, and Commitment. Calmness: It is essential for leaders to have the ability to remain calm in high-stress situations. My mother is incredibly calm, no matter what life throws at her. Even with a special needs child who is 100% dependent on her, she approaches every situation with composure and gratitude for life. Compassion: Compassion is the essence of effective leadership. My mother is also one of the most compassionate. She has a big heart and an endless capacity for empathy. Her compassion has taught me the importance of caring for others and giving back to the community. It has also shown me that true strength comes not from power or dominance but from kindness and empathy. Commitment: Leaders who are committed help unite a team toward a common vision, mission, and results. My mother is one of the most committed people I know. She has always been dedicated to her extended family, busy with household work and making sacrifices for our success. Her commitment has taught me the importance of perseverance and dedication. It has shown me that anything is possible with hard work and determination. In conclusion, my mother may not be a corporate diva or a high-powered executive, but she is a leader in every sense. Her calmness, compassion, and commitment have inspired me throughout my life, and I am grateful for the example she has set. On this International Women’s Day, let us celebrate all the women who inspire us, whether they are world leaders, corporate executives, or simply the people we love. #internationalwomensday #leadership #inspirationalleadership
