But I'm working on leaning into what others need and making sure I provide the answers to the other questions, just like how I talk to new managers about the need to get to know their people individually so they can give them what they need. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending The Mass Technology Leadership Council's award-winning Board-Ready Bootcamp, a program designed to prepare leaders through a comprehensive curriculum that covers everything from board fundamentals to strategy and governance. The event featured a lineup of CEOs and highly experienced board members sharing their insights. Admittedly, I was initially hesitant about attending. My schedule was already packed, and I found myself questioning the value of participating. However, I decided to keep an open mind, and I'm so glad I did! Here’s what I gained from the experience: 📌 Networking: I connected with senior leaders in tech, all eager to support and uplift one another. Networking is vital in any career, and I’m a firm believer in seizing every chance to expand your circle. 📌 Insights from CEOs: The discussions with CEOs who are leading their fields were incredibly enlightening. They shared how boards can act as strategic advisors focusing on risk and opportunity, demystifying the concept of board involvement. 📌 Reconnecting with a Babson College alum: Running into a former classmate who is now a CEO was a highlight. His approach to his career path and humility in success were particularly inspiring. 📌 Engaging with Board Members: The panel discussions and subsequent Q&As were invaluable. They shed light on the current gaps in tech knowledge on boards and the challenges boards face in today’s complex social and political landscape. 📌 Personal Realizations: I recognized that my experience could be a significant asset to startups. Perhaps someday, I might join a board to offer my expertise. This bootcamp also reminded me of the value I bring to the table—a crucial reminder for many women. 📌 Applying Advisory and Governance Insights: The lessons learned can directly apply to my daily work and I already plan to execute on some of this at our firm.
