Let's commit to not only achieving but exceeding the expectations of our federal clients by inspiring our teams to bring their best every day. #Leadership #FederalContracting #Government #Innovation #Excellence #MambaMentality #govcon

Effective leaders apply Chesterton's Fence principle by pausing to understand existing systems before proposing changes. This approach involves asking questions, seeking to comprehend the reasoning behind current practices, and being strategic in implementing reforms. By communicating clearly about the case for change and its implications, leaders can navigate resistance within organizations and drive lasting improvements. Combining Chesterton's Fence with second-order thinking enables decision-makers to anticipate potential consequences, prioritize necessary changes, and avoid the pitfalls of short-term thinking that often leads to bad decisions. https://lnkd.in/gT8XjQCi

Alright, folks, let’s talk about a little thing called integrity in leadership. Yep, that elusive quality we all know we need but sometimes struggle to find. Let’s spice things up with a recent headline: Joe Biden pulling out of the 2024 Presidential race. Now, there’s a move that screams integrity and value-led leadership. Here’s the deal. Leadership isn’t just about being the loudest voice in the room or the one with the fanciest title. True leadership is value-driven. It’s about sticking to your principles even when the going gets tough, and making the right call, even if it’s the hardest one to make. Biden’s decision to step aside isn’t just about politics; it’s about recognising when to lead and when to pass the baton. Now, let’s talk about distributed leadership. This isn’t some fancy buzzword; it’s a game-changer. Imagine a world where leadership isn’t concentrated at the top but spread throughout the organisation. It’s like everyone having a slice of the leadership pie. This approach fosters accountability, innovation, and resilience because people aren’t just following orders—they’re leading with their own values and insights. But why should you care? Because integrity and distributed leadership aren’t just lofty ideals. They’re practical strategies that make organisations thrive. When leaders at all levels stay true to their values, it creates a culture of trust and respect. And when leadership is distributed, everyone feels empowered to contribute their best. Look, what I do is help organisations navigate these choppy waters. I blend behavioural science with practical, people-led change strategies. My approach? Keep it real, keep it fun, and keep it inclusive. I don’t just talk about integrity; I live it. I don’t just preach distributed leadership; I practice it. So, here’s a toast to Joe Biden for reminding us that stepping back can be the most powerful step forward. And here’s a challenge to all of you: lead with integrity, share the leadership pie, and watch your organisation transform. #Integrity #Leadership #ValueLedLeadership #DistributedLeadership #JoeBiden #OrganisationalDevelopment #PeopleFirst #ChangeManagement

💱 We would change the language. "Why are competent people reluctant to lead?". Competence is an individual's potential for making a contribution (given the right opportunity and having the motivation and belief). Leading is about creating, changing organisational 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 which comes from a combination of factors including personal contribution. So perhaps the question is - how can organisations create a 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 that makes leaders from competent people? One of the answers is surely around motivation of and belief held by the potential leader. 😢 Leadership isn't always fun. It's a basket that holds worries, hard work, lonliness, risks and accountability (up and down). The type of leader you really want is not motivated by greed or status. Though success will bring rewards, it probably best that it is not the primary goal of an aspiring leader. People are sensitive to criticism and, in the world of twitter, instagram are wary of "haters". Standing up as a leader opens you up to caustic critique which isn't hidden The role of an organisation may be to create a capability that supports leaders. And that may mean, creating genuinely supportive behaviours and encourangement among followers.
When skilled workers skip opportunities to become leaders, it's often because they fear three kinds of risk: interpersonal, image, or blame.

I believe there are many reasons why capable individuals are reluctant to lead or find it daunting - Responsibility and Accountability | Resistance to Change | Visibility and Pressure | Complexity of Challenges | Managing People | Risk of Failure | Work-Life Balance | Emotional Intelligence | Imposter Syndrome etc... What is important with navigating these challenges is being part of an organization that nurtures your potential and provides a healthy culture by providing support, growth, and acceptance. Also navigating these challenges requires self-awareness, resilience, continuous learning, and support from mentors.

To ensure that your team members are not just familiar with tasks but are fully capable of handling crucial operations independently and confidently, consider the following action steps: *Documentation: From systems and processes to procedures and best practices, make sure these are well-documented and accessible to your trusted advisors or senior team members, regardless of who executes these steps presently. *Empower Your Team: Encourage team members to take on greater leadership roles as early in their tenure with your company as possible. This empowerment allows them to demonstrate their capabilities and readiness to lead. *Define Priorities: Clearly distinguish between what’s urgent, important, and what is a true emergency. Have proactive discussions about these categories to minimize unnecessary interruptions, not only while you are away for travel or family time, but also during the day to day operation of the business. John C. Maxwell reminds us, "It's wonderful when the people help their leader, but it's even more wonderful when the leader helps the people." By setting your team up for success, you're not just stepping away; you're stepping up your leadership. Find more strategies HERE: https://lnkd.in/gaFzuSQj
