Today is World Vitiligo Day – Vitiligo affects millions of people worldwide, leading to the loss of skin color in patches. This condition can impact self-esteem and emotional well-being and present challenges in social and professional settings. According to our article "The Landscape of Vitiligo in Latin America: a Call to Action," published in 2023, vitiligo is "frequently perceived as a cosmetic condition rather than a systemic disease, requiring dedicated medical care". Moreover, "[...] Policymakers are generally unaware of the disease burden represented by vitiligo and the importance of ensuring timely access to specialized care and treatment." Raising awareness about vitiligo is essential to promote understanding, acceptance, and support for those living with the condition. Despite being a relatively common condition, there is still a lot of misinformation and stigma surrounding vitiligo. Many people with vitiligo face social and psychological challenges due to the visible nature of the condition. Here are some important points to consider: 𝐕𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬: It cannot be passed from person to person through touch or proximity.
